LAS ST3+ in Oncology The closing date is 12 December 2025. This post is not recognised as a formal training slot however, the training opportunities will be the same as the other Specialist Registrar's. The successful applicant may be assigned to either a senior or junior registrar position depending on seniority and on the registrar allocation from within the region. The post holder will be working with a team of Consultants, Specialty Doctors, Trust Doctors, Specialty Trainees, Core Trainees and Foundation Trainees. Each post has a generic clinical component in the relevant area. In addition, the post holder will have an agreed experience in a sub‑speciality (depending on availability) including outpatient clinics, ward cover, specialist in‑patient reviews and procedures, audit and research. It is prudent to be a team player with excellent inter‑personal skills. The precise role within each team and the proportion of clinical time spent between the two components would depend on previous clinical experience and qualifications of the candidate and the sub‑specialty chosen. For candidates with substantial experience in trauma and orthopaedics and FRCS or equivalent qualifications, an advanced training position can be offered depending on assessment at interview as well as knowledge, skills and aptitude as well as previous competencies achieved in the specialty. Main duties of the job To provide senior medical leadership in the Oncology Department, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all categories of patients and the proper functioning of the Department. To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff to contact you in respect of patients under your care. Referral of patients to other specialities. Necessary investigation e.g. blood samples for crossmatch, emergency radiology etc. Appropriate management of referred patients, either: Admission to inpatient facilities Discharge with suitable follow‑up at the hospital Discharge to General practitioner Discharge with no follow‑up About us University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is one of the largest and most modern in the country. Person Specification Skills Experience in audit Ability to organise and prioritise busy workloads effectively Competence in safely and independently performing lumbar punctures and intercostal chest drains Ability to communicate effectively with patients, senior medical staff and other health professionals Competence in safely and independently inserting central venous lines Knowledge Knowledge of changes occurring in NHS as a whole and its impact on speciality work Knowledge of H&S issues Personal Characteristics Evidence of continuing professional development Highly motivated individual Flexible approach Ability to cope with stressful situations Full UK driving Licence and a vehicle that can be used for work purposes as multiple sites are covered by the service Qualifications MBBS or equivalent Full GMC registration Advanced Life Support certificate Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st degree MRCP Part 1 Experience Minimum of 24 months General Medicine Training At least 6 months experience in Oncology Must have 12 months experience in the UK in a substantive SHO post or equivalent experience Evidence of safe, sound clinical practices Experience of teaching medical students and Foundation trainees/SHO Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
