Site Engineer – Plymouth (Long-Term Project)

Carmichael UK is proud to be supporting a leading civil engineering contractor on a major long-term project in Plymouth. This is an excellent opportunity for several Site Engineers to join a high-performing team delivering complex and innovative works across sectors such as maritime, flood risk management, defence, energy, water, and regeneration.

This role offers exposure to a diverse range of civil engineering activities and the chance to contribute to a landmark project with long-term stability.

Please note: due to the nature of the project, security clearance is required and applicants must be UK Nationals.

Role Overview

As a Site Engineer, you will be responsible for all engineering duties within your designated section of works, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and technical accuracy. You will mentor junior engineers and contribute to key project documentation including RAMS, temporary works briefs, ITPs, progress updates, NCRs, TQs, and Early Warnings.

This relates to both self-delivered and subcontracted works.

Key Accountabilities

Health & Safety

Support the site team in delivering strong SHE performance.

Promote safe working practices across all activities.

Quality

Manage quality assurance at site level, including both workmanship and documentation.

Produce and implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).

Conduct quality checks, maintain accurate records, and ensure the wider engineering team does the same.

Raise and close NCRs, RFIs and TQs.

Contribute to production of as-built documentation.

Support the project’s quality objectives and ensure alignment with the project quality management plan.

Engineering Control

Maintain accurate dimensional control for all works.

Provide clear and reliable setting-out information.

Ensure setting-out is planned in advance and checked appropriately.

Maintain project stations and ensure equipment calibration and testing.

Programme & Planning

Develop short- to medium-term programmes for your section of works.

Maintain progress records and monitor subcontractor performance.

Brief engineers to ensure timely setting-out and programme compliance.

Attend collaborative planning sessions.

About You

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).

Minimum 5 years’ experience in civil engineering projects.

Working towards professional accreditation (e.g., ICE).

Strong technical knowledge, communication skills, and the ability to lead junior engineers.

Must be a UK National due to security clearance requirements
