Biomedical Scientist - ImmunologyNHS AfC: Band 5/6Job overview

Are you looking for an exciting new challenge in a place to take your career to the next level? Would you like to join a friendly, progressive, innovative team and play a part in the transformation of pathology services across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw? Do you want to work in a fully UKAS-accredited, modern laboratory environment where you can make a difference?

There is an exciting opportunity within the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Service to join the Immunology Team as a qualified Biomedical Scientist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is one of five Trusts involved in the formation of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Network. The aim of the Network is to deliver a Pathology Service that provides all SYB patients and clinicians with equitable access to high-quality, innovative laboratory medicine solutions that will ensure the best clinical outcomes for patients.

A collaborative Network will also provide rewarding job and career opportunities for all staff. An Outline Business Case, which described the Target Operating Model for the future Network, has been agreed between Partner Trusts. The proposed Target Operating Model will ultimately lead to the consolidation of services across SYB. As work progresses to establish the Network, staff will be consulted about proposals that may involve them.

Main duties of the job
  1. Carrying out immunology and specialised protein testing. We have automated and manual processes throughout the laboratory for Immunological investigations including Capillary Zone electrophoresis, Radio Immunoassay, Automated analysers, Isoelectric focusing, Indirect Immunofluorescence, ELISAs, Immunoblotting and flow cytometry. Experience of these would be beneficial.
  2. Training in all areas of the laboratory.
  3. Contributing to the Department's assay development programme.
