Clinical Research Nurse – BEST4 Screening Study Building on our track record of delivering pioneering research we are working in collaboration with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, University of Cambridge, and the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Queen Mary University of London Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU) to deliver a clinical trial into the early detection of oesophageal cancer, the BEST4 Screening Study. This project is funded by CRUK and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and aims to determine whether the Capsule Sponge test can be used for early diagnosis and to reduce oesophageal cancer deaths. Overview You will be responsible for managing clinics on the BEST4 mobile unit and will receive training to administer the Capsule Sponge test. You will work alongside established clinical teams, researchers, research nurses and administrators to facilitate recruitment, sample collection, data entry and provide clinical support as required. The role involves traveling to various sites and undertaking clinics in a mobile unit. Responsibilities Manage the clinic on the BEST4 mobile unit. Promote and nurture a welcoming, professional and pleasant environment for all participants. Provide and receive complex information when explaining study involvement and obtaining informed consent. Complete the BEST4 participant screening visit as per study protocol. Confirm the participant is safe and obtain informed consent prior to performing the Capsule Sponge test. Conduct the Capsule Sponge test. Work autonomously to manage your caseload of participants while collaborating with the wider BEST4 research team. Perform other clinical skills as required (e.g., emergency practices). Adhere to local policy and procedures and respond appropriately to emergencies (detachment, bleeding, resuscitation, anaphylactic reaction). Maintain mandatory training up to date as per local policies and requirements. Work closely with the BEST4 clinical coordinator to address re‑training needs for Capsule Sponge test administration. Input and record data onto the electronic Case Report Form (eCRF) and other research databases. Collect, verify and enter study data with a high degree of accuracy in accordance with ICH Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP). Operate within regulations described in ICH‑GCP, national directives and the research governance of Cambridge University, the Trusts, CPTU and EMS Healthcare. Identify potential barriers to recruitment and assist in implementing action plans. Facilitate and maintain effective communication with the study team, BEST4 research nurses and study participants; attend and contribute to relevant meetings. Liaise with study personnel at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, University of Cambridge, CPTU and EMS Healthcare as necessary. Drive the BEST4 mobile units to the research sites following the study schedule. Essential Criteria Registered nurse (NMC Registration). Continued CPD. Previous research or upper gastrointestinal experience. Significant post‑registration clinical experience. Experience conducting nurse‑led clinics. Good understanding of clinical research. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). Ability to work accurately and methodically with keen attention to detail. Team player able to work independently and take initiative. High level of organisational and time‑management skills. Excellent IT knowledge and proficiency in MS Office. Full, clean UK driving licence. Willingness to travel and complete overnight stays as required. Motivated and enthusiastic. Desirable Criteria Degree in a related subject area. ICH GCP training. Knowledge of research regulations at national level. Prior experience in cancer research and endoscopy. Prior experience with the Capsule Sponge device.
