Role Summary: The Sustainability Standards and Compliance (SS&C) team manages multiple assurance services for strategic schemes such as biomass (including woody biomass), Contracts for Difference, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture and Storage, and emerging sustainability schemes. The Senior Specialist will provide technical contribution to key work streams, lead the woody biomass expertise, and support assurance programmes across the business. Key Responsibilities Provide technical expertise to the Verification Team for Woody Biomass and other Biomass Assurance activities. Work with internal/external teams to provide MRV guidance on upcoming schemes, especially focused on the Woody Biomass Supply Chain. Collaborate with producers, emitters, and generators to implement appropriate assurance programmes within the Woody Biomass Supply Chain. Partner with trusted third‑party suppliers to enhance and sustain systems and services that enable effective assurance activities. Underpin validation and verification activities for Woody Biomass, supporting payment of over £1 billion of subsidy. Provide expertise for biomass verification activities and integrate best practice into other schemes. Lead ongoing biomass assurance development across LCCC existing and upcoming schemes. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Extensive technical competency in low carbon technologies, notably biomass technologies. High competency in application of standards and compliance requirements. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative team player. Proven leadership skills to enable development of other team members. Direct experience in the Woody Biomass supply chain and related certification schemes. Extensive knowledge of energy supply chains, including biomass/biofuels, hydrogen, and other energy vectors. Extensive experience applying compliance standards. Proven knowledge of biomass supply chain and forestry management standards and certification schemes such as SBP, FSC, and SFI. Understanding of relevant regulations for energy production and emissions reductions in the UK and internationally (e.g. RO, FiT, RHI, ETS, CBAM). Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM subject or an equivalent that demonstrates analytical thinking, problem‑solving, or technical understanding relevant to the role.
