We have a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and self-motivated nurse to join the elective Orthopaedic ward.The elective orthopaedic ward admits patients from home who have planned orthopaedic surgery that day. As well as working on F4, you will also be trained to work on the day of surgery admissions unit (DOSA) which admits some non-orthopaedic elective patients prior to their surgery.There is a strong emphasis on multi professional team working to ensure the patient is always at the centre and there is a high focus on rehabilitation with the ward having its own team of therapists.If you have any questions or would like an informal chat, please do not hesitate in contacting Ward Manager Eleanor Lawrence on 01284 713383Main duties of the job1. Communication:1. To work as a member of the team, establishing effective communication networks across the multidisciplinary team and wards/departments of the Trust and with patients/relatives and carers2. To establish professional relationships with patients/relatives/carers, communicating with them in ways that respect their views, beliefs and culture, and being aware of own response to distressing circumstances.3. To report to the Unit Manager / Senior Nurse on duty in a timely manner, information relating to all work activity, e.g. identifying significant changes in relation to direct patient care/treatment plans4. To act as advocate for patient's individual needs and choices5. Assist in the teaching of junior staff and learners in nursing practices Acting as link nurse/mentor for named learners as required6. Assist in the supervision, support, training and assessment of non-registered skilled workers7. Participates in the induction of staff8. Assesses nursing care to be delivered. Plans, prioritises and supervises care within an allocated time frame. Delegate activities to team members appropriately2. Identifies problems and risks, decides on appropriate actions via a structured approach and reports promptly to other staff on matters requiring their input9. Works collaboratively with the inter‑professional team and other staff on the ward/department10. Ensures all emergencies, untoward incidents, complaints, and grievances are responded to and reported in accordance with Trust Policies11. Is fully conversant with all policies and procedures, including Major Accident, Resuscitation, Fire, Health and Safety, and acts within them12. Contributes to the effective and efficient use of resources. Including safe use, checking, maintenance and storage of equipment13. Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care for area of responsibility for the shift. Delivers clear, concise records and handover.14.
