Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

We will help to revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise-free air transportation.Evolito develops and manufactures class-leading, lightweight, high-power, and high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation.As well as ultra-high performance, low-weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.As part of our current high-growth phase, we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead and grow the mechanical engineering functional team and to set up the needed / relevant processes and capabilities to support and meet the business needs of the mechanical engineering function.Key responsibilities will include:Ownership of design and development of parts and assemblies of our motor and controller productsDeveloping design solutions through full product lifecycle from requirements, through concept schemes, preliminary design, detail design, support procurement, manufacture/production, test and verification and development activitiesReview 3D cad models, 2D drawings, supporting calculations and analysis, material and production methods selectionOwnership of drawing checks on 3D cad models and 2D drawings, to achieve formal drawing releasesSupporting the development of manufacturing processes and novel designs for new technology applications and materialsLiaising with suppliers on design and development solutions, resolving to the optimal solutionSupporting FMEAs and FMECA inputOwnership of engineering documentation such as risk resister and design logbooksSupporting new business opportunities with information, guidance and feasibility of packaging and applications of our motors and controllersSupporting and encouraging people developmentSupporting design and engineering development best practices, capable of producing technical documentation for internal and external use when requiredCapable of critically reviewing engineering specifications, statement of works and other documents that may form part of technical and commercial agreements.Skills and experience required:Degree or equivalent in mechanical, electro-mechanical or equivalent engineering sciencesProven experience in a design and development environment, pragmatically applying knowledge to real-worldConfident use of engineering basic principles for initial conceptual designConfident with cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders, with suppliers and customersExperience in people management and people developmentUnderstand design for manufacturing and series production processesExperienced in the use of CAD & data management software packages SolidWorks, Solidworks PDM, Siemens NX, Siemens Teamcenter to generate best practice 3D models to create design concepts and production intent partsAbility to undertake and interpret mechanical CAE studies and propose solutions/improvements to design issuesExperience with drawing control systems such as PLM systems or Solidworks PDMIndependent in GD&T to ISO 1101:2017, ASME Y14.5 – 2018 or similarFamiliarity with FMEAs and robust engineering practices, and/or willingness to appreciate working within a structured and rigorous systems engineering product development processCreative problem-solving abilities with an analytical approach to implementationExcellent verbal and written communication skills, conciseAt least three among the following:CastingForgingAdvanced polymer moulding (plastic moulding)Bolted joints definition and verificationHeat treatment sand surface treatmentsRotational machines and balancingPermanent magnet motorsCreepage and clearance analysis to IEC 60601 or UL 840Gaskets, seals and elastomer materialsBearings and gearsMechanical interfaces and interactions with power distribution components and electronic circuit boardsUK driving licence and be available to support visits to customer sites.Desirable:Basic CAE analysis skills (FEM, CFD, vibration and modal) to perform simple analysisExperience with SolidWorks and Solidworks PDMExperience with composite materials and dissimilar materials bondingMember of professional institutions such as IET or IMechE #J-18808-Ljbffr
