We are currently seeking a Principal/Associate Geotechnical Engineer to join us ideally in Edinburgh (although other office locations will be considered for the right candidate). This role offers flexibility between home and office work, a focus on work‑life balance, and substantial growth prospects within our ambitious team. As a geotechnical leader in our Ground Engineering Group, your main tasks will be to support team growth, provide project leadership, participate in geotechnical investigation campaigns, design structures and act as a technical reviewer. You will make decisions and technical recommendations for our UK programmes in the energy sector, and may also support land development and infrastructure projects. The role involves leading large‑scale geotechnical studies, identifying and mitigating risks, managing complex technical situations, and contributing to new methods and practices. You will also coach staff, help with service proposals, and further the discipline within Stantec across the UK and Ireland. Responsibilities Support team growth and project leadership. Plan and conduct geotechnical investigations. Design and review geotechnical structures. Make technical decisions and recommendations for energy and infrastructure programmes. Lead large‑scale geotechnical studies and risk mitigation. Manage complex technical situations and develop new methods. Coach and develop staff and contribute to service proposals. Requirements You will hold a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geological engineering, geology, or a related field, preferring a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Geotechnical Engineering. Candidates must possess extensive relevant experience, including substantial involvement in infrastructure projects. Chartered membership with a relevant organization (ICE or Geological Society) is preferred, or active pursuit of chartership. Excellent technical writing skills are essential, with proven experience in design and analysis of geotechnical structures, and demonstrated leadership in managing teams.
