Base Pay Range Direct message the job poster from Fawkes & Reece. As Head of Business Development, you will lead the business development function across the different divisions of the business. This is an exciting and pivotal role that will shape the Group’s commercial growth strategy driving new business opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and overseeing the integration of new acquisitions into the existing business development framework. You will build on a solid foundation established within the company ensuring a coordinated, data-driven approach to business development across all group companies. What You’ll Do: Strategic Leadership & Group Growth Develop and implement a Group-wide business development strategy, aligning the activities of all subsidiaries under a unified vision for sustainable growth. Prioritise activities based on the needs for each business plan to deliver awareness with new clients, client account management / improved penetration, selling, cross selling and market share gain overall. Oversee the integration of new acquisitions into the business development structure, ensuring alignment of processes, client engagement, and reporting systems. Identify new market segments and partnership opportunities that support the Group’s long-term diversification strategy. Represent the company at a senior level in negotiations, frameworks, and industry partnerships. Active Management of Business Development Activities Lead, mentor, and coordinate the Business Development Manager and Project Development Engineer to ensure delivery of individual and collective targets. Monitor opportunity pipelines, ensuring consistent lead qualification, CRM accuracy, and conversion tracking across the Group. Set and review clear KPIs and performance metrics for all BD activities, ensuring accountability and measurable results. Chair regular pipeline meetings to align effort, capability, and resource planning across companies. Constantly assess the performance of all activities and modify plans and the objectives of individuals to maximise returns. Direct group-wide market research, competitor analysis, and intelligence gathering to inform strategic decision-making. Establish and nurture senior-level relationships with Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, government agencies, consultants, and industry partners. Oversee key account management plans and ensure consistent, professional client communication across all business units. Guide and support promotional activity (e.g., lunch-and-learns, exhibitions, conferences) to enhance visibility and specification of the Group’s services and products. What You’ll Bring: Proven leadership experience in results focused business development within the marine infrastructure, civil engineering, or construction sectors. Strong commercial acumen with the ability to drive strategic growth across multiple business units. Exceptional relationship management and negotiation skills, with experience engaging clients at senior and board level. Familiarity with contractual frameworks such as NEC and BIMCO (desirable but not essential). Competency in CRM systems, reporting tools, and market analysis platforms. A collaborative, motivational approach to leadership, with a focus on mentoring and empowering others. Willingness to travel across the UK for client, site, and management engagements. 50/50 split between working in the Head office in Devon and visiting clients and facilitating meetings. Qualifications & Experience: Minimum 8+ years’ experience in senior business development or commercial roles within the marine, infrastructure or construction sectors. Experience managing teams or multiple business units. Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Business, or a related field. Valid UK driving license.
