We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated Specialist Hand Therapist, with extensive experience of performing advanced clinical assessments in this specialist field. Main duties of the job To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own professional activities in line with the standards of the Hospital To have overall accountability for the planning and management of own complex and specialised caseload of patients To be highly competent in assessing a wide range of orthopaedic hand and plastic surgery conditions based on advanced theoretical knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, often in situations where conflicting evidence is present To utilise advanced clinical reasoning skills and evidence based knowledge to assess and diagnose patients and implement appropriate management plans as an autonomous practitioner. To demonstrate highly developed dexterity, coordination and palpation skills for the assessment and treatment of patients. To make recommendations to colleagues and members of the MDT, based on advanced theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the ongoing management of patients Maintain patient documentation, records and accurate statistical information to reflect the care provided and to meet professional and hospital standards as well as local and national guidelines. In collaboration with the Clinical Lead undertake monitoring and evaluation of work and current practice through the use of evidence based projects, audits and outcome measures. To use highly advanced communication and behaviour change skills to facilitate a long term self-management approach with patients living with acute/or chronic hand conditions and pain. To continuously assess, evaluate and modify treatment aims, objectives and desired outcomes in collaboration with the patient, any carers and multidisciplinary team. To make recommendations to colleagues and members of the MDT, based on advanced theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the ongoing management of patients To produce up to date, clear evidence based resources for patients. Person Specification Experience To demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance and risk management appropriate to the work situation. To be responsible for own personal professional development and keep abreast of new clinical practices in the area of hands/plastics management/rehabilitation. Take personal responsibility for promoting a safe environment and safe patient care by identifying areas of risk and following the Hospitals reporting policy and procedure. To be responsible for equipment used to carry out Hand Therapy duties and to adhere to hospital and departmental policies, including competence to use the equipment and safe use of equipment by others. To assist in the development and implementation of organisational and departmental polices and procedures and be involved in reviewing and updating as appropriate. To progress own CPD by keeping up to date with key trends and developments by reading and attending external/internal courses and in-service training sessions. To adhere to the principles of lifelong learning and maintain a CPD portfolio reflecting personal professional development. To evidence when requested completion of clinical competencies, mandatory training completion and clinically relevant documentation. To participate in the staff appraisal scheme and personal development planning as an appraisee. To analyse own CPD in order to identify training needs to guide individual development in conjunction with the hospital and service needs. To continually maintain and improve professional and clinical skills and knowledge through the supervision process. Responsible for managing own time effectively. Complies with HCPC codes of ethics and professional conduct, national guidelines and hospital policies and procedures. To achieve the effective daily management of a caseload of patients including responding to urgent referrals, prioritising clinical work and balancing other patient related and professional activities in accordance with departmental standards. To attend regular meetings in order to share information on needs and initiatives and support the development of the Hand Therapy/MSK service and wider therapies teams. To provide specialist advice, teaching and training to other members of the hospital regarding the management of hand therapy patients. To act as a source of clinical expertise and advice and as a resource for other team members As required be responsible for supervision of staff in the therapies department. To be actively involved in the induction of new therapies staff and in conjunction with the Clinical lead and Outpatient therapy team lead ensure they have adequate support in the period of orientation. To plan, prioritise and delegate effectively and efficiently with regard to patient care and professional demands. To represent the profession and service in appropriate internal and external meetings/groups To deputise for the Clinical Lead as required in their absence.
