This is a full time (10PA) post, but consideration would be given to applicants wanting to work a minimum of 6PA. It is a 12 month fixed term contract and would suit a resident doctor wishing to take time out of programme to develop their neurodevelopmental competencies, a GP looking for a change of career, or a doctor returning from a career break. The post includes responsibility for locality neurodevelopmental clinics in Portsmouth City with appropriate clinical supervision, and a contribution to the in hours child protection rota. Other clinical responsibilities could be negotiated dependant on the skills and interest of the successful applicant. The office base is at Battenburg Avenue Child Development Centre, Portsmouth. Coordinate continuing paediatric management of children with disabilities through outpatient clinics, provide paediatric advice for Education, Health and Care Plans. Contribute to the child protection medical service for the assessment and management of children where abuse or neglect are suspected, under supervision of a senior doctor. Contribute to undergraduate medical student teaching. Person Specification Qualifications MBBS or equivalent medical qualification; Fully registered with GMMC and holds a licence to practice; At least 4 years postgraduate experience, including 2 years in paediatrics; Recognised and registered with GMC as a trainer / supervisor. MRCPCH or equivalent. Experience Appropriate career progression to date; Experience and interest in paediatrics; Experience of autonomous outpatient clinics; Active involvement in Continuous Professional Development relevant to Paediatrics; Experience of Audit. Experience of working within the NHS and awareness of acute and community collaborative working; Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and valuing the expertise of other professions; Training and experience in management of children with complex needs; Experience in CAMHS relevant to community paediatrics; Experience in the assessment of children who may have experienced abuse or neglect. (Further training in the assessment of child sexual abuse can be provided if required); Experience of teaching postgraduates, medical students and other health professionals. Additional Criteria Relevant specialty clinical knowledge; Excellent communication skills, written and verbal; Able to work under pressure; Ability to organise and to prioritise clinical work (including clinical administration); Clear and logical thinking; Effective time management; Able to share knowledge and difficulties with colleagues; Able to work well within a team; Able to be flexible, adaptable, thorough and resilient at work; Awareness of legislation appropriate to paediatric patients; Awareness of Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 and of the relevant RCPCH guidance relating to Safeguarding; Awareness of issues in Clinical Governance. Use of formal developmental assessment tool. Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
