Speciality Doctor in Palliative MedicineWe are inviting applications for a fixed term post (parental leave cover) as a Speciality Doctor in Palliative Medicine to work with our Specialist Palliative Care Service, working across both hospital and community.This is an exciting opportunity to positively influence and enhance palliative care across Stockport community and hospital services. The post holder's primary responsibility will be to work within the Specialist Palliative Care Service providing specialist advice and support for patients with cancer and other life-limiting advanced progressive disease and their families. Provide pain & symptom management advice and support to other health and social care professionals in both community and hospital setting.The post holder will be based with Stockport Specialist Palliative Care Service at Willow House, Stepping Hill Hospital.Applicants must have full GMC registration. Have extensive experience with a high level of clinical skills and practice. Can demonstrate continued professional development since qualifying and experience of clinical management of people with complex palliative and end of life care needs.Stepping Hill Hospital is a busy District General Hospital with most major specialities and has an active Postgraduate Centre with a comprehensive programme of clinical meetings, seminars and excellent library facilities.Main duties of the jobThis post will provide medical clinical capacity to work alongside primary and secondary care teams in Stockport supported by the Specialist Palliative Care Service including two Consultants in Palliative Medicine.Maintenance of high quality patient centred care.Liaise with, and provide advice to professionals within primary and secondary care as well as to other members of the Specialist Palliative Care Service.Active involvement in multi-disciplinary team meetingsSpeciality Doctor to work in a clinical role as well as being involved in clinical governance activity within Stockport Specialist Palliative Care Team.The post holder will provide specialist advice and support for patients with cancer and other life limiting advanced progressive disease and their families, as well as providing advice and support to health and social care professionals.Be responsible for maintenance of the highest possible standard of medical care for patients.Participate in education, training, quality improvement and research activities.Undertake appropriate Continuing Professional Development, appraisal and revalidation activities in accordance with the requirements of Royal CollegesAbout usWe hold a unique position in the Stockport community as the provider of healthcare and we are one of its largest employers.We believe that the best organisations are those that reflect the communities they serve. These patients may be at home, in a care home or within the acute hospital setting.To make autonomous clinical decisions supported by other members of the Specialist Palliative Care Team including the two Consultants in Palliative Medicine.To support the ongoing embedding of principles of palliative and end of life care, as well as Advance Care Planning (ACP) within practice alongside other members of the Specialist Palliative Care Service.To be competent in the management of palliative medicine emergencies.Be responsible for maintenance of the highest possible standard of medical care for patients.Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on their own and the teams activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the teams performance.Comply with the governance arrangements, policies and procedures of the organisation and will attend the Stockport Palliative Care Team monthly Governance meetings.Develop and maintain expertise in the care of specialist palliative care patients.Undertake appropriate Continuing Professional Development (CPD), appraisal and revalidation activities in accordance with the requirements of Royal Colleges.Support clinical teaching to junior doctors, medical students and other health professionals within the Trust.
