We welcome both experienced and newly qualified staff nurses. Within endoscopy no two days are the same. We are looking to recruit highly motivated, dynamic, forward-thinking nurses to help provide a safe, high-quality service to patients across the trust. The endoscopy service provides a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for both inpatients and outpatients carried out within our four procedure rooms. We are also proud to be accredited for the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Main duties of the job Our nurses ensure the safe admission, recovery and discharge of patients, as well as assisting our Consultants and Nurse Endoscopists within the procedure room. Patients attend the endoscopy department for various endoscopic procedures – colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy and cystoscopy, as well as some therapeutic procedures. Patients are referred to the endoscopy service via different routes; GP referrals, surveillance programmes, bowel cancer screening programmes or referred via the multi‑disciplinary team. We are proud to provide a comprehensive in‑house training programme which ensures nurses feel supported and competent in their abilities. We also participate in an out‑of‑hours on‑call rota with Darlington Memorial Hospital acute site. Job responsibilities We provide a detailed and supported training programme to ensure all competencies are achieved and assessed via knowledge and practice. When you join the endoscopy team we will ensure a mentor is allocated who would hold regular meetings with their trainee to guarantee a friendly and supported working environment. Your mentor would support you through all areas of the endoscopy training programme; admissions, recovery and in the procedure rooms. We are also delighted to offer endoscopy‑based online training resources and simulation study days to enhance your learning experience. About us We provide hospital services from two acute sites – Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester‑Le‑Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community‑based settings and providing care in patients' homes. Person Specification Special Skills & Knowledge Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within The Code. Understands requirements for NMC professional revalidation. Has up‑to‑date understanding of the scope of and role of the Nurse in the context of nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development. Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional help and advice. Will provide leadership in the delivery of care for people in their care and act in best interests of people, putting them first and providing care that is person‑centred, safe and compassionate. Safely leads and manages the nursing care of a group of people, demonstrating appropriate prioritisation, delegation and assignment of care to others involved in patient care. Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate. Prepared to take part in reflective practice and clinical supervision. IV cannulation Venepuncture Experience We welcome both experienced and newly qualified nurses. Able to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non‑verbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi‑disciplinary team. Will support, supervise and assess students in the delivery of nursing care, promoting reflection and providing constructive feedback, and evaluating and documenting their performance within the clinical setting. Will promote healthy lifestyle choices and provide information in accessible ways to help people understand and make decisions about their health, life choices, illness and care. Qualifications Nursing Degree or equivalent qualification leading to NMC registration to part 1 of the NMC register. Valid NMC PIN or awaiting PIN. Evidence of continual professional development (desirable). Statutory Registration Registered Nurse (adult or child) on part 1 of the NMC register. Valid UK NMC PIN.
