Finance AssistantLocation: Altrincham WA14 5UW, full time office based for training, hybrid thereafter. Steadily reducing office days down to 2 per week (depending on training/performance).Hours: Full time, Mon‑Fri, 09:00‑17:00.We’re looking for a motivated and career‑driven Finance Assistant to join our Finance team. This is a great opportunity for someone who already has a grounding in finance and wants to grow beyond the basics. The role will initially focus on core finance processes before steadily developing into more complex management accounts work, with the opportunity to progress with AAT studies.What you’ll doReporting into our Financial Controller and working closely with a highly experienced Management Accountant, this role will have exposure across the full finance function. Day‑to‑day responsibilities will include:Downloading invoices from portalsReferralsVerifying payment eligibilityAuto‑posting to ProclaimPurchase Ledger & PaymentsPreparing invoices for paymentProducing the Purchase Ledger Authorisation ReportProcessing approved BACS and Direct Debit paymentsBank ReconciliationsReconciling office bank accounts every 2–3 daysRequesting missing invoices and resolving discrepanciesSupporting client bank reconciliations in busy periodsNominal Analysis & Month‑End SupportMaintaining analysis spreadsheetsHandling journals and posting correctionsMaintaining balance sheet reconciliationsAssisting with month‑end management accountsWhat we’re looking forAt least 1 year’s experience in an AP/AR / Finance Assistant / Accounts Junior role, or relevant accounting‑degree backgroundStrong numerical accuracy and attention to detailGenuine desire to build a long‑term finance careerComfortable communicating with colleagues at all levels, including directorsMotivated, proactive and willing to learnWhilst not essential, we’d be very interested in applicants who have:AAT studies underway/ambition to start AATAnalysis experience/an interest in developing analytical skillsExperience using ProclaimWhat you’ll get in returnGenuine career path to develop into a Management Accountant level role.Early exposure to month‑end responsibilities, accruals and other junior level accountancy work.Build your skills beyond a typical AP/AR role, with opportunities to develop analysis work, more complex management accounting work and contributing to wider finance projects.Start/continue with AAT qualification via PLS’s study support scheme (colleagues are eligible to apply for this after 12 months of continuous service and subject to performance).A supportive team environment with hands‑on mentoring.20 days holiday (rising to 25) + Bank Holidays, with buy/carry over options.Employee benefits: death in service, EAP, counselling, and salary sacrifice (tech, nursery fees, gym, cycle, car).Extras: free conveyancing, mortgage advice, staff discounts.Why PLS?We’re a fast‑growing, modern law firm with a Finance team at the heart of that growth.
