Paediatric Clinical / Practitioner Psychologist The symptom management service are looking to appoint a Paediatric Clinical / Practitioner Psychologist. The post holder will join the Symptom Management Service - Recovery from Illness, a multidisciplinary team supporting Children and Young People affected by long-term health conditions such as Long Covid, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Pain. The service works collaboratively with families, GPs, Allied Health Professionals, specialist teams, and community services to identify and address the holistic needs of each child. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. Main duties of the job The Symptom Management Service - Recovery from Illness supports Children and Young People coping with the impact of health conditions in their lives; including Long Covid, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain. The clinical pathway is focused on working with children Young People and their families to identify and support their needs, in partnership with GP's, Other Allied Health Professionals, specialist teams and community services. The post holder will be based alongside the Symptom Management Service. The post holder will work in a multi-disciplinary team undertaking direct intervention work with Children / Young People and their families and significant others; consultation work advising staff of other disciplines on the psychological aspects of casework. The role will involve participating in regular MDTs and conducting psychological assessments and the delivery of appropriate therapeutic interventions for the full range of referred difficulties accepted by the Service. The role will include assessment and interventions focused on meeting the physical, emotional and social impacts of children and Young people with extended health issues. These will be delivered by the post holder in individual, group, face-to-face and remote formats. Person Specification Skills Ability to understand the highly complex and conflicting messages from clients and organise this in a way that allows them to guide the client through a complex process of change. Ability to communicate and relate to people warmly and with empathy. Including sensitive material in writing. Ability to plan and organise complex activities or programmes, which may be service or client focussed, and may have long-term implications requiring ongoing monitoring and adjustment. Possess a working knowledge of strategies, policies and procedures relevant to working with Children and Families and the area of learning disabilities. Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology. To be aware of race and cultural issues in professional practice. To be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team. Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh Qualifications Honours degree in Psychology. HCPC Registered. Graduate status with BPS. Doctorate in Clinical Psychology accredited by the BPS, or equivalent accredited by the BPS. Training in clinical supervision Other related academic qualifications Experience Significant experience of working with children with chronic health conditions and their families. Has begun to develop special expertise in a relevant clinical area and to have undergone or is undergoing post qualification training in it as part of the CPD process. Doctorate training across a range of client groups but must include Children and has completed at least 10 training days per year on courses relevant to the provision of Child and Family Psychology and Therapies Service. Research experience and statistical expertise. Post qualification work experience in a relevant clinical or care setting.
