Research Associate in Adversarial Learning The School of Computer Science and Engineering is offering an opportunity for a Research Associate. In this role, you will conduct both independent and collaborative research as part of a defence‑funded project focused on developing robust multimodal foundational models for continual situational understanding. Your work will involve developing adversarial models and attacks, evaluating model robustness and security, and proposing effective defence methodologies. You will also contribute to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals, participate in conferences and workshops, supervise HDR students, and collaborate with industry partners. This role reports to Professor Flora Salim and has no direct reports. Salary: Level A – AUD$113,911 to $121,838 per annum + 17% superannuation Full‑time, fixed‑term contract – 3 years starting in January 2026 Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia Must have working rights for Australia Skills And Experience PhD (or soon to be awarded) in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related area Demonstrated experience in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity Experience researching adversarial AI attacks and defence strategies Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision Track record of publications in top‑rated journals and conferences Ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines, and build effective relationships Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders, external clients, and students Ability to supervise undergraduate students or equivalent experience in supervising junior staff Understanding and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values; knowledge of relevant policies and guidelines Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures Additional details about the specific responsibilities for this position can be found in the position description.
