Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. The National Energy System Operator (NESO) has been given an exciting new role of Regional Energy Strategic Planner. We will be responsible for developing Regional Energy Strategic Plans (RESPs) for 11 nations and regions across Great Britain, empowered through recent Ofgem decisions and consultations. These RESPs will consist of four digital‑enabled products: Nations and Regions Context, Pathways and Consistent Planning Assumptions (CPAs), Strategic Investment Needs and Spatial Context. The National and Regional RESP teams will be supported by a Hub team providing strategic support, interfacing with national stakeholders and governance and providing services that are common to nations and regions and more effectively delivered centrally. The purpose of this role is to create and lead a Pathways and Consistent Planning Assumptions (CPAs) Delivery team. You will be accountable for delivering the RESP Pathways and CPAs, involving interpreting and analysing the whole energy models produced by the Whole Energy Model Development Team, to generate credible pathways for RESP. RESP Pathways are designed to provide a whole‑system, long‑term view of energy needs across RESP nations and regions and will include a single short‑term pathway and multiple long‑term pathways. You will manage a delivery team with specialised analytical and forecasting skills and provide clear oversight to the RESP Technical Delivery Senior Manager on progress and decisions relating to the Pathways and CPAs. You will also be accountable for technical co‑ordination of the RESP Pathways and CPAs product, including alignment with national plans and addressing consistency across nations and regions, and for the technical review and assurance of network plans in line with this. To successfully deliver, you will work closely with the Whole Energy Model Development Team and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in the nations and regions. This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick, Glasgow, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full‑time and part‑time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements. Key Accountabilities Delivery and Improvement Deliver national and regional Pathways for our “Regional Energy Strategic Plans” publication, on a 3‑yearly cycle. Lead on the development of our Consistent Planning Assumptions. Drive the continuous improvement of the Pathways and CPAs product, considering new and improved processes and tools to ensure we continue to provide value to our customers and our business. Iterate the product vision, manage product backlogs, maintain product roadmap between RESP cycles. Review and update the RESP methodology to reflect changes to the products between 3‑year RESP cycles. Technical Coordination and Technical Assurance Accountable for the technical coordination of Pathways and CPAs product, ensuring consistency across nations and regions. Supporting the Central Technical Delivery Senior Manager on decision‑making framework. Accountable for the delivery of network plan assurance for RESP Pathways and CPAs. Collaboration and Communication Lead and manage a newly formed team. Proactively communicate our Pathways analysis to key stakeholders and engage with industry players to ensure consistency and transparency in understanding the analysis. Work closely with the Planning & Operations Team to pull in resources from the Whole Energy Model Development Team and SMEs in the nations and regions as required to deliver the product. Accountable for ensuring consistency with SEP and wider NESO approaches. Represent NESO at external governance and working group forums. Manage resources and people effectively and proactively in line with budget, best practice and NESO frameworks and procedures. About You Experience within and knowledge of the energy sector, including across gas, electricity and hydrogen markets, with detailed understanding in at least one, and a good understanding of current and future global economic and market issues facing the industry. Experience with leading a technical team, supporting team members and creating an inclusive and welcoming environment. Ability to lead teams of internal experts and engage with senior management across NESO to formulate innovative strategies/policy positions on output‑focused work packages. Ability to interpret and analyse large volumes of data and model outputs. Ability to understand and communicate whole energy modelling. Ability to communicate thought‑leading, compelling and complex ideas and influence key senior internal and external stakeholders. Experience in developing strong working relationships across all levels of the organisation and with stakeholders (in particular, government and regulators), quickly and effectively. Experience in managing and delivering projects at pace. Experience in managing products end to end including continuous improvement and strategic alignment. About What You’ll Get A competitive salary between £64,000 – £78,000 per annum, dependent on experience and capability. In addition to your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15 % of your salary for stretch performance, 28 days annual leave as standard, and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12 %.
