Consultant in Old Age PsychiatryNHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest health boards in Scotland, employing around 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million and the wider region of 2.2 million.Interview date: 13/02/26The role is based at Ward 38, Royal Alexandria Hospital (RAH), Paisley, within the Older Adult Mental Health team. It includes quality improvement, teaching, training, and research opportunities, with a schedule of 9.5 sessions that combine community, inpatient and liaison work. The CMHT, acute psychiatry beds and general hospital beds are located at RAH, with an additional 1 HBCCC ward (East Ward) at Dykebar Hospital, 2.5 miles from RAH.Shift pattern: 38 hours per week, full shift pattern yet to be confirmed. On‑call expectations: part of the South Glasgow rota (at least 1:25), typically with a second on‑higher trainee. Flexible working patterns are available, and options for additional EPA can be negotiated through job planning.Responsibilities:Lead clinical services across the CMHT, inpatient wards and liaison team, diagnosing and managing older adults with severe and enduring mental health conditions, including young‑onset dementia patients.Collaborate with consultant psychiatrists, a specialist doctor, clinical fellows and the wider multidisciplinary team.Provide teaching and training to staff and trainees.Engage in quality improvement, research and CPD activities, including collaboration with neurology and neuroradiology colleagues.Participate in the GG&C Old Age Psychiatry Division and wider OPMH Board strategies and medical leadership initiatives.Qualifications:Completed CCT or within 6 months of completing CCT with Section 22 AMP status.Contact: Dr Ashley Fergie – CD OPMH – 0141 2116429.EEO and Inclusion: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde encourages applications from all sections of the community and promotes a culture of inclusion.
