This role is all about helping us maintain a safe and smooth operation of our wastewater network every day. You’ll be part of the team that monitors treatment works, pumping stations, and sewer catchments, ensuring we respond quickly to flooding and pollution risks. Much of your work will involve looking at live system data, understanding what it’s telling you, and helping coordinate the right actions with our field and operational teams. It’s a hands‑on role where you’ll learn how the whole wastewater system works and play an important part in improving how we manage it in the future. What you’ll be doing as a Wastewater Process Controller Learning the day‑to‑day responsibilities of wastewater control so you can support the control room during busy periods, especially in wet weather Monitoring alarms, analysing system behaviour and helping coordinate the right response Working with SCADA, SMART Tools, GIS and other systems to understand risks across multiple wastewater catchments Helping develop improved ways of visualising wastewater networks by producing system drawings and overlaying data from different sources Supporting the move toward catchment‑based control and future integrated control room design Commissioning and helping run a test catchment control desk to support new ways of working Engaging with control, operations, logistics, scheduling and planning teams to understand challenges and help shape improvements Contributing clear communication and updates on what you discover as new tools, systems and processes develop Location: Reading – Kemble Court, RG2 6AD Working hours: Monday – Friday 09:00‑17:00 Note: This is a 12‑month fixed‑term contract/secondment. Essential skills Experience using geographical maps, piping drawings, schematics, system drawings or process flow diagrams Strong IT skills, including Excel, Word, email and databases Ability to analyse data, solve problems and understand system patterns Desirable Experience producing or editing maps, schematics or system drawings, and working with larger data sets Experience with SCADA, SMART Tools, GIS, alarm handling or other control/monitoring systems Understanding of wastewater networks, hydraulic systems, process plants, environmental impacts, or experience in utilities, planning, scheduling or operations teams Benefits Competitive salary up to £40,000 per annum. 24 days holiday per year, increasing to 28 with the length of service. (plus bank holidays) Performance‑related pay plan up to 10% of salary. Generous Pension Scheme through AON.
