Senior Nuclear Safety Consultant Join RPS as a Senior Nuclear Safety Consultant and shape safety standards of complex and high‑profile projects in nuclear, energy, defence and decommissioning. This role requires an experienced technical leader who thrives in a challenging environment. Purpose & Scope of the Role The successful candidate will produce and review technical documentation, conduct hazard identification and risk assessments, and ensure compliance with stringent regulatory standards. They will prepare proposals, support tender submissions and oversee financial reporting for projects under their leadership. Tasks range from short‑term safety assessments to multi‑year, multi‑million‑pound projects, contributing to nuclear decommissioning, energy generation and defence initiatives. Your Impact in this Position Short term: Gain hands‑on experience in safety case delivery, regulatory engagement and technical leadership. Medium term: Lead complex workstreams, develop specialist expertise, and take on formal technical review responsibilities. Long term: Advance to Principal Consultant level or transition into business development and strategic leadership. Safety Case Assessment Apply advanced expertise in safety case development, lead hazard identification, and risk assessment techniques. Integrate safety principles into engineering design and operations, influencing key decisions across the facility lifecycle. Diverse Project Portfolio Manage projects ranging from rapid hazard identification studies to complex, multi‑year safety assessments, ensuring high standards of quality and delivering tailored solutions for each assignment. Regulator and Client Engagement Represent the organisation in meetings with clients and regulators, presenting technical reasoning and negotiating outcomes that satisfy safety and compliance objectives. Technical Report Writing Produce clear, concise and authoritative documentation, including safety case reports, radiological assessments and supporting documentation that meet stringent regulatory and client standards. Mentoring Provide technical guidance to junior colleagues, review work for accuracy and compliance, and share best practices, fostering collaboration and professional growth. Qualifications & Experience Degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline and substantial experience in nuclear safety case development or assessment. Knowledge of nuclear plant operations, regulatory frameworks and safety management principles. Chartered status with a recognised professional body desirable. Working Environment Hybrid role, three days per week in office. Teams based in Warrington and West Cumbria.
