They were established under the 1949 National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, which set a legislative framework for the creation of National Parks in England and Wales. The RoleAssist the Authority’s work in nature conservation, enhance the National Parks wildlife and promote biodiversity. Contribute to policy formulation and guidance, develop management casework to ensure compliance with statutory obligations and biodiversity duties. ResponsibilitiesPoint of contact for ecological matters in the planning function.Provide specialist advice on planning related ecological and biodiversity matters.Assist Senior Planning Ecologist with advice, policy and guidance development.Provide advice, comment and consent for pre:application enquiries, planning applications and consented developments affecting landscape features, designated sites and priority habitats and species.Support planning obligations to secure biodiversity enhancements.Monitor sites to ensure implementation of biodiversity gains and protected species mitigation.Assist with assessments on potential effects of development on European Designations.Respond to Environmental Impact Assessment screening and scoping requests, and comment on Environmental Statements.Represent the Authority at public meetings, planning appeals, public inquiries, court cases and committee meetings.Provide advice, comment and quality control for assessments and works associated with statutory undertakers, transit or pipeline works affecting land owned by the BBNPA, landscape features, designated sites and priority habitats and species. Provide conservation advice on reinstatement, restoration and ecological enhancement works carried out in relation to statutory undertakers.Any other duty as occasionally required by the Director of Planning and Place or the Chief Executive. Skills and QualificationsDegree or equivalent in Ecology or related subject.Knowledge of legislation, policy and guidance affecting natural resource management and development management.Knowledge of ecology, survey methodologies, habitat management and restoration.Understanding of how the natural environment is affected by development and how to conserve, restore and enhance features.Good IT skills, including use of MS Office software and Document Management systems.Effective communication with a wide range of organisations and individuals including members of the public, applicants and agents.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
