Deputy Head of Lighting / Followspot Operator Chris Harper Productions are seeking an experienced Deputy Head of Lighting / Follow Spot operator to join the West End production of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. Job Description The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry is a musical by Rachel Joyce, with music & lyrics by Passenger, originally created at Chichester Festival Theatre. It will open at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket in January 2026 for a limited run. Ahead of rehearsals we are looking for a full lighting team to include a Deputy Head of Lighting. Job Requirements Alongside the Head of Lighting, work closely with the Lighting Designer, Associates, programmers and production staff during pre‑production and throughout the run. Assist with daily rig‑checks to include equipment and focus checks. Support regular maintenance for all lighting equipment to preserve the creative and technical quality of the production. Raise any challenges with the Head of Lighting (or if covering Head of Department) to Producer, Production Managers and Company Manager in a timely manner. Operate a follow spot during the performance, assisting the second follow spot operator with their cues and pickups. Deputise for the Head of Lighting as required, including operation of the lighting desk for performances. Job Responsibilities An understanding of lighting and rigging systems. Experience working within a professional theatre lighting department. Experience in supporting troubleshooting and maintenance of complex lighting and electrical systems safely. A punctual and organised manner with excellent time management. Ability to work calmly under pressure. Understanding of current Health & Safety practices, including working at height and correct use of PPE. Attendance to training as required by the Production.
