Senior Research Advisor INSIDE IR35 On behalf of ONS, we are looking for a Senior Research Advisor for a contract ending 31st of March. The role is remote with occasional travel to Newport. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK's largest producer of official statistics, covering a range of key economic, social and demographic topics, including the value of the UK economy, the geographic distribution and characteristics of the population, and indicators of price inflation, employment, earnings, crime and migration. The Natural Capital Accounts is an annual publication that values natural resources to people in the UK. ONS plans to develop estimates of depletion for renewable and non‑renewable resources in the next 3 to 4 years. This includes estimating the stock of these resources and, for renewable ones, the rate of regeneration and consumption. Timber is one of the renewable resources for which estimates will be developed. Responsibilities Scope out existing data sources to estimate the physical stock of timber in the UK and, where none exist, identify methodologies, required input data, and potential organisations to collaborate with. Establish data sources for the initial stock at a specific time and determine the rates of harvesting and regeneration. Scope data sources for developing estimates of depletion for fish. Review data availability and engage with potential data providers. Manage stakeholder relationships, reach out to data providers, identify publication limits, and explore the scope for commissioning new work. Ensure the role is performed within the UK; overseas hiring is not permitted. Essential Qualifications Quantitative background. Experience of forestry or woodland conservation. Background in environmental or natural sciences. Public sector experience. SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role. Candidates must be willing and eligible to undergo security checks. Desirable Qualifications Python coding skills. Active security clearance (if achievable quickly).
