Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Environmental Health Officer to join our Food Safety team. As an Environmental Health Officer (Food Safety), you will play a key role in delivering professional regulatory advice, enforcing food hygiene and food standards legislation, and supporting the Council’s public health priorities. You’ll carry out a range of interventions including inspections, audits, sampling, advisory visits, and promotional activities. You’ll also investigate offences, issue legal notices, and prepare prosecution files where necessary. What we’re looking for A qualified EHO with a Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent, and registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board Demonstrable experience in food safety enforcement and knowledge of relevant legislation and codes of practice Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex regulatory requirements to a range of audiences Investigative and analytical skills, with experience in preparing legal documentation and taking enforcement action A proactive approach to continuous professional development and keeping up to date with guidance from agencies such as the Food Standards Agency and UKHSA Ability to work flexibly across the Borough and participate in occasional out-of-hours work, including emergency response and noise service rotas (paid at an agreed rate) Why join us Be part of a supportive and forward-thinking team.
