RQ1637600 – Executive Head of Nursery

Deadline – 14th November 11am £400 a day – Umbrella Deputy Childcare and Children Centre Services Manager Role Purpose Part of the senior management team, working closely with the Executive Head of Childcare Services to manage day‑to‑day operations of the three local authority‑maintained nursery provisions, ensuring high‑quality provision. Deputise for the Executive Head of Childcare Services and for the Executive Head of Children Centre Services when required. Contribute to developing the ethos, policies and practice of the centres, particularly for high‑quality early education and childcare provision. Main Responsibilities Assist the Executive Head of Childcare Services in meeting Ofsted inspection requirements. Help monitor and set operating budgets for the centres. Lead staff in discussing, assessing and reviewing children’s development to plan for their next steps, ensuring all children’s needs are met. Identify and deliver training for childcare staff, including support and mentoring. Share responsibility for supervision, performance management, capability and disciplinary matters, and professional development of the childcare staff. Lead the sickness monitoring process of the centre in line with Haringey Council policies and procedures. Assist in implementing and monitoring safeguarding policy and practice, particularly in identifying suspected child abuse. Assume responsibility for safeguarding in the absence of the Executive Head of Childcare Services. Handle admissions, welfare and progress of vulnerable two‑year‑old free entitlement children, ensuring smooth transition into 3‑4 year old places. Support the Executive Head of Childcare Services and the Finance Officer with the administration of childcare fees. Contribute to the Nursery’s self‑evaluation process and the construction of the Nursery Development Plan in consultation with appropriate parties. Hold key‑holder responsibility and be available outside working hours if required by emergency services or council requirements. Work flexibly, travelling across the borough and operating from a range of venues. Understand and comply with the Council’s and Education Service’s equal opportunities, sickness, environmental and health and safety policies and procedures. Undertake any temporary duties consistent with the basic objectives or duties of the post. Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Experience Working in an Early Years service providing an integrated service of care/education and family support. Involvement and awareness of Ofsted/Day Care inspections. Skills / Ability Ability to prepare information for staff, parents and stakeholders, both in written and oral presentation. Create and use computer‑based systems, including word processing, spreadsheets and databases. Conflict management and problem‑solving skills. Staff supervision. Knowledge Excellent knowledge of child development, learning and related theory and practice. Legislation and procedures relating to the Children’s Act 1989, SEN code of practice, registration and Ofsted inspections. Effective teamwork. Promotion of parental and community involvement. Understanding of the respective roles of the agencies involved in supporting families. Good practice in all elements of the management of an Early Years service. Requirements of Health & Safety, food hygiene practice, procedures. Demonstrate a commitment to and carry out duties with regard to the principles of the Councils Equal Opportunities Policy.
