This role involves building modern Web API solutions, delivering reliable integrations, contributing to architectural decisions, and upholding engineering best practice. The position offers full remote flexibility within the UK, with optional access to regional offices. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend Web API systems using modern .NET (8+) and C#. Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Build and integrate RESTful APIs aligned with OpenAPI specifications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA, platform engineering, product, and operations. Conduct code reviews, mentor colleagues, and enforce best practices in clean code and secure development. Optimise system performance, scalability, and reliability across distributed environments. Ensure adherence to industry security standards and compliance requirements. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in live and development environments. Contribute to architectural decisions and support long-term technical strategy. Support the development and delivery of integration projects across multiple systems. Requirements 5+ years of commercial software development experience, including at least 4 years of hands-on C#/.NET experience. Strong experience developing Web APIs; additional experience in desktop technologies (WinForms, WPF) is advantageous. Solid understanding of SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL, including sound database design principles. Experience designing and delivering high-availability architectures. Hands-on experience with cloud technologies, ideally Microsoft Azure. Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, TeamCity, GitHub Actions). Experience with containerisation and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform). Understanding of security best practices, including OWASP, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, certificate management, and TLS/mTLS. Ability to lead technical design and guide engineering work across concurrent projects. Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments. Experience mentoring junior developers or leading small development teams is highly desirable. Strong documentation skills and attention to quality.
