Owens are looking to recruit an enthusiastic & conscientious HGV Technician to support our Carrington operation working a Monday-Friday or Sunday-Thursday. Day shift pattern and hours to be discussed at interview. Overview We are seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge and experience in equipment repair, with a focus on trailers. This role requires a hands‑on approach to diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and ensuring that all trailers are in optimal working condition. The successful applicant will be adept at using various tools and equipment while maintaining a high standard of customer service. Responsibilities Provide technical knowledge/advice/skill to other team members ensuring the best decisions are made. Carry out weekly inspections of vehicles Travel around local sites Carry out preventative planned maintenance/repairs Diagnose and repair trailers dealing with mechanical breakdowns and damage to restore vehicles to required performance in order to minimise/or avoid unnecessary delays. Possible Call-outs Carry out all other duties as directed by the Company Availability to cover call outs Read and interpret schematics to troubleshoot issues effectively. Use hand tools and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance tasks. Weld components as necessary to ensure structural integrity. Assemble parts and systems according to specifications. Operate forklifts safely to move trailers and equipment within the workshop. Maintain a clean and organised work area, adhering to safety protocols at all times. Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding their trailer needs. Experience Proven experience in mechanical repair, preferably with trailers or similar equipment. Strong understanding of electrical systems related to trailer functionality. Familiarity with using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment. Experience operating forklifts is advantageous but not essential; training may be provided. Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Strong communication skills, demonstrating an ability to provide quality customer service.
