What skills and experience we're looking for Temporary Deputy Head of Faculty – Mathematics (maternity cover). TLR 2b (Outer London £5,872.00 per annum). Required March 2026. We are looking to appoint an innovative, highly motivated and outstanding practitioner to join our Mathematics faculty. As a member and leader of our maths faculty you will play a key role in supporting the development of our curriculum. We have a bold vision for our maths curriculum; we want our students to become outstanding problem solvers, equipped with the numeracy and reasoning skills to be successful at and beyond year 11. Our results have rapidly improved since 2019 due to a sharp focus on our curriculum and we are keen to build upon our success to be bolder and more ambitious with what our students can achieve. We are looking for a teacher and leader who can be part of shaping this journey. This is a temporary post to cover a period of maternity leave, offering an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative and dedicated team as one of its leaders. Responsibilities Demonstrate creativity, strong subject knowledge and the ability to motivate students. Be proactive and determined about developing and maintaining high standards of teaching and learning with a focus on a specific Key Stage, which will be determined by the strengths, experience and interests of the candidates. Support the development of the maths curriculum and lead on curriculum matters as a subject specialist. Plan collaboratively and actively develop subject knowledge with colleagues through CPD and partnerships such as the Princes’ Teaching Institute. Participate in induction programmes, mentor new staff and contribute to the school’s CPD pathways. Undergo an enhanced DBS Disclosure as part of safeguarding procedures. Qualifications & Experience Dynamic teacher with genuine passion for teaching Maths. Strong subject knowledge and creativity. Experience or willingness to lead a faculty and work within a specific Key Stage. Proactive, determined and able to inspire students. Most staff will choose from options based around our school priorities, such as Leave No Child Behind, Make Learning Magic or All About Assessment. Others will benefit from self‑study such as PTI leadership and subject development courses, NPQs or National College training. We are also part of the Haringey Education Partnership which offers a wide range of CPD, ranging from pastoral support, subject‑specific training to leadership development. Teachers have an allocated WFA – Work from Anywhere period included on their timetable. Home and Family weeks: termly non‑meeting weeks throughout the year to support with reduced workload and staff wellbeing. No report writing. Beautiful school grounds, including staff terrace (in summer). The possibility of flexible working contracts (37% of our staff are part‑time). Regular wellbeing surveys and wellbeing slots in staff meetings; member of SLT with responsibility for staff wellbeing. 97% of staff say the school is a happy and enjoyable place to work; 95% feel their professional contribution is valued; 73% feel they have a good work‑life balance. This compares very favourably with the TES national Wellbeing report where only 20% of staff felt their workload was manageable. Staff working in schools in Waltham Forest, regularly using computers, are eligible to apply for reimbursement towards some of the costs associated with eye tests and glasses. Free on‑site parking.
