OverviewGraduate Trainee – Digital (Cyber Security) role at Leeds City Council. Salary: C1 £28,598 - £31,022. Hours: 37 per week. Contract: 2-year Fixed Term. Location: Merrion House, 110 Merrion Centre, Leeds, LS2 8BB.Leeds City Council is running a Graduate Programme to develop talent in digital services. The role will assist with the development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of digital systems and services, with a focus on information security, assurance, compliance frameworks, vulnerability management, and incident detection and response. The programme offers mentorship, on-the-job learning, and opportunities to pursue industry-standard certifications. Hybrid working is available; initial in-office presence is expected for at least three days per week during the first six months, with patterns and locations to be agreed locally.We are a large employer with a commitment to our council values and ambition to deliver high-quality public services.ResponsibilitiesWork flexibly to support Leeds City Council services by contributing to projects, transforming ways of working, and assisting in the development of digital policies.Work with IT professionals to gain practical experience and develop essential skills for digital leadership.Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and implement digital solutions that improve service delivery and operational efficiency.Analyse corporate data to inform decision-making and policy development.Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of digital platforms and tools.Support cyber security initiatives to protect digital infrastructure and sensitive information.Engage in requirements gathering to ensure digital solutions meet user needs.Monitor project progress and report on digital schemes.Contribute to the development of digital strategies and frameworks.Keep up to date with digital trends and technologies to improve services.Attend team meetings and contribute to project planning and execution.Participate in mentorship and learning opportunities including training and leadership development.Provide coaching and support to apprentices and assist with task allocation as required.The duties are not exhaustive and may include other duties aligned with the post.QualificationsGCSE: Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C), English and Maths or equivalent.Degree: Recent graduate with a degree or equivalent; experience in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, IT, Data Science, Cyber, AI) is desirable.Essential RequirementsAbility to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and partners.Ability to work well in a team and manage time and priorities.Able to use initiative to develop solutions to day-to-day issues.Able to develop constructive working relationships and work with others.Customer-focused service mindset.Accurate data entry and retrieval from digital and manual systems with attention to detail.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to work in a public sector environment and understand how changing ways of working can deliver results.Ability to work with stakeholders to achieve benefits within budget constraints.Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment and to support others through change.Understand financial and council-wide impact in decision-making.Basic understanding of IT systems, networks, and software applications (Microsoft technologies desirable).Aware of local government financial pressures and able to support council priorities.Desirable requirementsKnowledge of Microsoft 365.How to ApplyUpload your CV and complete a personal statement of no more than 500 words.
