We have an exciting new opportunity for an intermediate Electrical Design Engineer interested in decarbonisation projects to join our Carbon Shift business unit. Our Carbon Shift consulting business is focussed on the delivery of realisable climate action and net zero plans and is supported by delivery capability in heat decarbonisation, regeneration, Facilities Management, Project delivery, EV’s, smart buildings and renewables. Carbon Shift has developed a strong expertise and client base around net zero and energy transition and is now moving expand this offer into offering solutions to the broader climate adaptation and resilience challenge. Key activities The postholder will support the development of renewable heat and power projects. This role will focus on the engineering and design development of commercial / utility-scale renewable electricity and heat projects, working within a team of multidisciplinary engineers.To prepare electrical design solutions for retrofit decarbonisation projects, new-build energy centres and heat networks, taking a RIBA 1 brief to RIBA 4 technical design.To carry out electrical load assessments and size switchgear, distribution systems and equipmentTo carry out calculations using proprietary software, and understand various installation and reference methods used in calculations.To prepare design models, utilising proprietary design software, such as AutoCAD and REVITTo utilise application specific software, such as PVSyst and DialuxPrepare calculations and engineering analysis for the purpose of validating simulation models, confirming systems design requirements and performancesWork within a multidisciplinary design team, collaborating with mechanical, structural / civil, architectural, energy and specialist designers to produce coordinated designsSupport market research to identify new and emerging technology / design innovations and assess suitability for application to projectsSupport technical options appraisals to qualify / quantify best available techniques for low carbon systemsPrepare design / functional specifications and contribute to tender scopesLead / contribute to Design Stage Reports and associated customer-facing documentsUndertake Designer Risk Assessments to identify and minimise health, safety and environmental risks associated with designs preparedWith support from colleagues, understand and comply with statutory, regulatory and contractual requirements applicable to designWith support from colleagues, understand and account for physical and environmental constraints associated with design processes and outputsPreparation and processing of Distribution Network Operator applicationsWhere applicable, work alongside BIM specialists to provide relevant modelling/design informationUndertake non-invasive engineering surveys to support and validate design processesInterpret survey information from others and accommodate within designUndertake technical support during construction and commissioning phasesSkills, qualifications & experienceAn advanced level of understanding of low-voltage electrical systems design (general)Good knowledge of British Standards, design guides and the Building RegulationsGood knowledge of BS:7671 and IET technical guidance notes.Aware of health and safety and CDM regulations.Is able to produce schematic layouts and single line diagrams for electrical systems from concept to detailed design (with assistance from senior engineers)Knowledge of lighting, small power / switchgear, data, fire alarm, security and access control systems in context to the role.Aware of stakeholder involvement within the project life cycleAware of environmental, cultural and health and safety issues associated with the design of systemsAble to prepare draft specifications, stage reports, tender documentationCompetent in standard industry design software, including AutoCAD and REVITCompetent in standard Microsoft Office products i.e. word, excel, outlook, teams etc.Understanding of environmental factors affecting electrical designExcellent communication skills – written, oral etcWhat can we offer you?On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package, which includes;25 days annual leave(+ public holidays)5% bonusPrivate healthLife Cover equivalent to 2 timesannual salaryEmployee discount shopping schemes on major brands and retailersGym membership discountsCycle to work schemeHoliday purchase scheme2 corporate social responsibility days per yearBroad range of learning opportunities, such as professional qualifications, collective/individual training, and personalized support programmesAttractive Employee Referral Rewards SchemeAccess to our growing employee networks including WiE (Women in EQUANS), RISE (BAME), LGBTQI+, Working Parents, YPN (Young Persons Network) and our Disability Network24/7 Employee Assistance Program and access to mental wellbeing appWho are we?
