BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of Highway Maintenance services across Scotland. We manage and maintain over 2,000km of Scotland’s trunk road network, tackling a wide range of tasks and working around the clock to keep Scotland moving.We inspect, manage, and maintain over 2,500km of Scotland’s trunk road network, including 1,500 trunk road structures in the North West of Scotland for our client, Transport Scotland. Our work involves some of the most scenic yet challenging parts of the country, managing structures such as historical masonry arch bridges, culverts, walls, and iconic major structures like Kessock, Skye, Connel, and Dornoch Bridges.We are seeking a Bridge Engineer to join BEAR Scotland’s North West Bridges Team at our Inverness office. The role involves assisting with project management, inspection, investigation, design, procurement, and supervision of maintenance works, as well as updating records including Health & Safety files and Operation & Maintenance manuals. Candidates with suitable knowledge and experience as a Graduate or Senior Bridge Engineer will also be considered for a suitable position.The Bridge Engineer will support Senior or Principal Engineers in managing and maintaining major bridges in the NW unit, ensuring work is completed to technical standards, on time, within budget, and according to safety and environmental regulations.Roles and Responsibilities:Design of bridge maintenance projects and management of design recordsPerform detailed design in accordance with DMRB, MCHW, Eurocodes, and British StandardsDeliver work on schedule and within budget, planning and prioritizing tasksAdhere to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality proceduresEnsure environmental compliance and mitigation measures are implementedUpdate structural records in client management systemsMonitor and control project costs effectivelyEstablish good relationships with clients, stakeholders, and authoritiesAssist with media releases and correspondenceUndertake Designer’s role under CDM Regulations, including risk assessments and method statementsProduce Health & Safety Information packsManage and supervise subcontractors on siteSupport other team members as requiredKnowledge, Skills, and Experience:Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited universityAt least 3 years of relevant experiencePractical knowledge of DMRB, MCHW, and related standardsValid UK driving licenseBEAR Scotland is accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers and offers a training scheme to support professional development. Candidates should hold a Civil Engineering degree and relevant experience.
