Cost Consultant

Mace currently has a need for an experienced, Senior Cost Consultant to be part of our team to deliver this ambitious, long‑term project. NEC4 target cost audits and assurance reviews of applications for payment. Cost and performance reporting. Procurement support: Reviewing main contractor tender documentation and evaluating contractor and supplier bids from a cost perspective. Contract administration: Work closely with legal and commercial teams to administer contracts, manage variations, and assess claims and compensation events. Change management: Evaluate the cost impact of project changes, ensuring all variations are captured, valued, and reported in a timely manner. Qualifications and Experience A degree in quantity surveying/cost management (or equivalent). Professional membership i.e. MRICS/RICS (or equivalent). Detailed knowledge of most forms of contract. Sound knowledge of value engineering, life cycle costing, contract law and contractual frameworks relating to construction. Proficient knowledge and expertise in a specific sector/market for project/role. Relevant technical qualification/certification for project portfolio(s). Knowledge of contractual frameworks relating to construction. Sound knowledge and ability to undertake and advise on contract administration and contract management. Additional Skills Demonstrable experience of delivering service excellence to clients. Proven experience in cost planning, budgeting and estimating. Good negotiating, influencing and communication skills to command professional respect at all levels. Sound understanding of costs and timescales of work undertaken and implications of risk of failure to deliver. Proven experience with different types of contracts, including the method of measurement. Knowledge of BIM techniques and applications. Negotiation skills. Analytical skills. Digitally competent. The project: Mace is currently providing a wide range of multi‑discipline services on a transformational port expansion project in Immingham. The Immingham Eastern Ro‑Ro Terminal (IERRT) is a major infrastructure project (over £200m) designed to expand the Port of Immingham’s roll‑on/roll‑off freight capacity. The development includes constructing two new ferry berths, a passenger terminal and UK border force facilities, alongside significant landside improvements such as vehicle parking areas and upgraded road networks. This expansion aims to accommodate growing demand for unaccompanied freight services across the North Sea, improve operational efficiency and strengthen the port’s role as a critical logistics hub for the UK and Europe. This facility will be operated by Stena Line following a lease agreement between ABP and Stena Line.
