WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: To become an Electrical Installation Lecturer in our Engineering department, we need someone who is adaptable, knowledgeable, and motivated. The successful candidate will have the chance to acquire new skills and develop their abilities in a wide range of activities. Although this position is based at our Bromsgrove and Worcester campuses, all applicants must be prepared to travel to our other campuses or surrounding areas as required. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING: Plan and prepare, in accordance with the requirements of the curriculum. Deliver effective programmes of learning, through efficient classroom management. Work in accordance with the requirements of the College and examining bodies, implementing quality assurance requirements. Undertake monitoring and assessment of students’ and clients’ progress. Marking students’ work in a timely manner and providing feedback to learners. Complete and maintain accurate and effective systems of administration. Undertake continuous professional development in accordance with professional development policy. Provide support for students, to ensure the best possible satisfaction, attendance and achievement levels. Maintain safe working practices at all times and ensure that statutory requirements are met. Undertake the duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. Carry out your duties and responsibilities at all times in compliance with College policies, including the College Equal Opportunities, No Smoking and Quality Management Policies. To undertake such other duties, commensurate with the post, which the College management may reasonably and occasionally require – this may include evening and Saturday working and covering for absent colleagues as and when appropriate. KEY ROLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES Planning and preparation Plan and prepare, in accordance with the requirements of the curriculum, by: Producing and maintaining schemes of work and outlines of work Preparing lesson plans with clear aims Preparing appropriate resources Delivery Deliver effective programmes of learning, through efficient classroom management, including: Promotion of learning in a stimulating context. Ensuring all classroom activities are conducted in a safe manner with appropriate use of safety equipment/clothing. Established strategies for managing lateness. Use of information Learning Technology (ILT) where appropriate. Consulting and liaising with other members of the course team to ensure effective delivery of the agreed subject area. Quality Work in accordance with the requirements of the College and examining bodies, implementing quality assurance requirements by: Participating in the College Lesson Observation Scheme. Contributing to the SAR and other quality related activities. Assisting with the production of course evaluation and review the induction sessions. Attending at least three course team meetings per annum. Fully participating in course team activities. Monitoring Undertake monitoring and assessment of students’ and clients’ progress through: Maintaining up-to-date and accurate records in line with College procedures and appropriate standards. Assessment and verification Marking students’ work in timely manner and providing feedback to learners, including: Advising students on targets, progress and individual learning plans. Operating to agreed marking schemes Setting and assessing work of the students in relation to curriculum criteria and providing opportunities for student feedback. Where necessary, acting as an assessor. If appropriate, acting as an internal verifier. Associated administrative duties Complete and maintain accurate and effective systems of administration, including: Ensuring that students are enrolled Maintaining accurate and up to date registers Making appropriate referrals to College services Identifying and reporting non attendances Referring matters to the CRQ Leader or CRQ Manager Registering students for external awards, if appropriate, under the supervision of the CRQ Leader or CRQ Manager Ensuring that all work is marked and appropriate feedback given within set times Curriculum and other development Undertake continuous professional development in accordance with professional development policy, including: Undertaking subject specific updating and development in order to be able to teach in the curriculum area Undertaking other development in liaison with the CRQ Leader or CRQ Manager Undertaking curriculum updating in line with awarding body requirements Providing a general contribution to the curriculum development process Attending and participating in course team, programme area and College meetings as required. Attending conferences, courses and meetings to update expertise and knowledge. Student support Provide support for students, to ensure the best possible satisfaction, attendance and achievement levels, including: Acting as a personal tutor for a group of students Supporting students in Functional skills (inexperienced staff will be given training and support) Referring students to the Student Welfare or Career Guidance Team as appropriate. Liaising with Personal Tutors or other staff on student issues, which may need further investigation/action. Health and Safety Maintain safe working practices at all times and ensure that statutory requirements are met, including: Taking responsibility for the safe conduct of work within your own work area, including the completion of risk assessments as and when necessary. Safeguarding Undertake the duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. You will be expected to: Carry out your duties and responsibilities at all times in compliance with College policies, including the College Equal Opportunities, No Smoking and Quality Management Policies. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE – Academic staff The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Academic Staff. The work pattern of a Lecturer is not necessarily linked to the traditional academic year. All successful applicants will undergo the following checks: Enhanced DBS 2 x References, one of which must be your current or most recent employer SALARY The salary range for this post is from £25,599 – £39,725 per annum. Starting salary will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. Once you have successfully passed your probationary period, your salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until you reach the top of the salary scale. Increments are in August. TEACHING QUALIFICATION Applicants are required to hold an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to undertake and gain the Certificate in Education and Training within 2 years of their appointment. Successful applicants will be required to attend the course on‑site as the College delivers the course in-house. Applicants are encouraged to obtain a teaching qualification; if unable, the College may provide funding on a case‑by‑case basis. MATHS AND ENGLISH All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths; if you are not already in receipt of one or both of these qualifications, you will be expected to obtain them during your employment at the College. SAFEGUARDING All newly appointed staff will be required to undertake safeguarding training following their appointment. Heart of Worcestershire College adheres to the Department of Education’s guidance on ‘Keeping children safe in Education’. As part of your induction, you will be required to read and understand part 1 of this document. VALIDATION OF QUALIFICATIONS The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute. Only those qualifications which are essential for the post will be followed up. HOURS OF WORK The hours of work will be based 37 hours per week x 52 weeks. ANNUAL LEAVE The post carries 37 annual leave days with an additional eight public bank holidays plus a further five concessionary days as ‘leave to be taken at the Principal’s discretion’. Annual leave will be pro rata if part time. Staff may only take more than three consecutive weeks of leave with prior permission. PENSION SCHEME The College operates an occupational pension scheme, namely the ‘Teachers Pensions’. PROBATIONARY PERIOD All newly appointed teaching staff have to serve a 9‑month probationary period. During the probationary period you will have to attend the Corporate staff induction day, a Teaching & Learning Induction and additional mandatory courses on: Prevent, Equality & Diversity, GDPR, Safeguarding, and Health & safety training. Failure to attend will prevent you from successfully completing your probation. REFERENCES All candidates need two satisfactory references. LOCATION The successful applicant will be based at Bromsgrove and Worcester Campuses, but may be required to work at other locations from time to time.
