Job Overview This is a fixed‑term training contract of 24 months to meet the needs of the service. The role provides the opportunity to gain the required experience and qualification(s) needed to register as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Applicants must obtain permission from their current line manager prior to applying for this secondment position. Salary: Initially Annex 21 Band 4 – 70%, progressing to 75% after 12 months. Pharmacy technicians develop expertise in medicine management and work as part of healthcare teams in hospitals, manufacturing units, community pharmacies and GP practices. During the two‑year training you will gain experience in dispensing for in‑patients and out‑patients, purchasing and distribution, ward‑based work, and supporting medicines optimisation processes. The post will be based at Glan Clwyd Hospital Pharmacy. Successful interviewees are required to email a copy of their GCSE certificates before the interview date. You will rotate through a multi‑area, rotational training programme, gaining experience in hospital and GP practice settings, dispensing, purchasing, distribution, ward‑based work, and supporting medicines management and optimisation. Detailed job description and main responsibilities The job description attached refers to the position that you would be working towards. Those who currently hold the Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy services, NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy services or an equivalent qualification will not be considered. To be shortlisted for an interview, candidates need a minimum of 4 GCSEs grade A*-C (new grades 9-4) or equivalent, including: GCSE English at Grade C/Level 4 or above, Scottish National 5 or above, or equivalent English language evidence. GCSE Maths at Grade C/Level 4, Scottish National 5 or above, or equivalent evidence of numeracy. One GCSE Science at Grade C/Level 4 or above, or Scottish National 5 or equivalent. Applicants using ‘equivalence’ principles (e.g., access to higher education courses) may need to complete Essential Skills Wales ‘communication’ and ‘application of number’. Proof of qualifications will be required. You will undertake a GPhC‑approved training programme, involving full‑time (37.5 hours a week) pharmacy work, portfolio building, work‑based assessment, online learning, study days and group work. The programme requires a commitment to study outside working hours and meeting deadlines. Experience working effectively in a team and independently, and previous pharmacy experience, are desirable but not essential. Person specification Qualifications 4 GCSE A-C including Maths, English and Science. Evidence of academic study and continuing professional development after leaving school (e.g., NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services). Experience Experience working within hospital and/or community pharmacy or within the NHS (desirable). Aptitude and abilities Ability to work in a team, organise self, good IT skills, health and safety awareness. Desired ability to speak Welsh. Knowledge of pharmacy services and the role of a pharmacy technician. Values Awareness of working within limits, professional, patient care. Ability to use initiative and practice time management (desirable). Other Willingness to work in a bilingual area. Ability to travel, appreciation of care responsibility of the health care environment.
