Fluvial Flood Risk Modelling Officer – 32404 Environment Agency Job Description The Environment Agency is recruiting a Fluvial Flood Risk Modelling Officer to join our national flood risk evidence modelling service. The team supports and assures the Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) programmes, delivering on the ambition of a nation that is resilient to climate change. Our modelling services provide the evidence base for flood management and inform strategic decision‑making, supporting the ambitions of EA2030. As a technical officer you will advise and support a range of investment, asset maintenance and flood mapping projects, ensuring that we have the appropriate evidence to support decision making. You will also develop your technical capabilities in line with our technical development framework. Responsibilities Advise and guide flood risk management teams on hydraulic and hydrological modelling. Develop and maintain your own data management, hydraulic and hydrological modelling capabilities. Communicate flood risk analysis and results to internal and external stakeholders. Advise on appropriate tools and techniques for hydrological and hydraulic modelling approaches. Demonstrate positive health, safety and wellbeing behaviours. Use your technical skills to support incident management. Qualifications Experience in science, flood risk and/or data management. Ability to analyse and process data and information. Good communication and customer service skills. Ability to influence and persuade. Ability to achieve results and work as part of a team. Ability to make decisions and solve problems. Awareness of health, safety and wellbeing with a commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity. Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Desirable Understanding of how flood risk evidence supports investment programmes and mapping projects. Skills in flood modelling software (e.g. Flood Estimation Handbook, Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, InfoWorks ICM). Skills in data processing, management and GIS software. Competencies Competence 1 – Data and Information Management Provide an example of when you have managed data to improve reporting or decision‑making. Consider how you ensured the information was accurate, reliable and compliant with standards; how you managed the data and what you learned. Competence 2 – Achieves Results Tell us about a time you had to deliver results under tight deadlines. How did you organise your work, ensure accuracy and still meet the target? Competence 3 – Takes Decisions and Solves Problems Give an example of a time you faced a difficult problem, how you analysed it and the decision you made to solve it.
