With a track record of delivering world-class projects across Defence, Aerospace, Nuclear, Sports & Entertainment, and Infrastructure, they’re now looking to strengthen their team with a talented Software Engineer.Location: Sheffield, England, United KingdomThe RoleAs a Software Engineer, you’ll be involved in the full software development lifecycle—from concept and design to testing, commissioning, and ongoing support. You’ll be working closely with mechanical, electrical, and commissioning engineers to ensure seamless integration between software and hardware, with a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and compliance.Key responsibilitiesDesigning, developing, and optimising robust software applications for advanced control systemsCollaborating with hardware engineers to ensure smooth system integrationWriting, testing, and reviewing high-quality code using languages such as C/C++, Python, ladder logic, and structured textCommissioning software at the in-house test facility and on-site, ensuring compliance with operational and safety requirementsDiagnosing and resolving real-time integration challenges between software and hardwareMaintaining detailed documentation and version control across the project lifecycleSupporting continuous improvement of tools, processes, and system performanceAbout YouProven software development experience in control systems, automation, or industrial engineeringStrong understanding of communication protocols (Modbus, CAN, Ethernet/IP) and hardware integrationExperience with commissioning, fault diagnosis, and safety-critical systemsExcellent problem-solving skills, with a meticulous attention to detailA collaborative approach and the ability to work across disciplinesKnowledge of PLC or SCADA systems would be advantageousWhat’s on OfferFlexible working hours around core timesSalary sacrifice pension scheme with employer reinvestment25 days annual leave + bank holidays, with the option to buy up to 3 extra daysLong service holiday increases (after 5 and 10 years)Employee referral rewardsSeniority levelMid-Senior levelEmployment typeFull-timeBase pay rangeThis range is provided by Connected Engineering.
