Job Title: SEN Learning Support Assistant (Short-Term Cover) – Colchester

Agency: TeacherActive

Location: Colchester, Essex

Contract: Short-term cover, until Christmas (through TeacherActive)

Salary: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience)

About the role: TeacherActive are seeking an enthusiastic and committed SEN Learning Support Assistant to provide short-term support for pupils with additional learning needs in a Colchester-based school. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive difference during a busy term and gain valuable experience in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities:

Support pupils with diverse learning needs in class, small groups, and 1:1 settings
Assist with structured activities and differentiated learning plans
Monitor and track pupil progress, reporting back to teaching staff
Encourage independence, social development, and positive behaviour
Support with personal care as required (in line with school policy)
Assist with classroom management and risk assessment
Contribute to inclusive practices and safeguarding procedures
Requirements:

Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEN setting
Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant; CACHE; SEN experience) are desirable
Patience, resilience, and a proactive, flexible approach
Good communication skills with pupils, parents, and staff
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupils’ welfare
Ability to adapt to changing needs and cover different year groups as required
DBS on the update service (or willing to obtain one through TeacherActive)
