Job Overview The Specialist Behavioural Support Service (SBSS) is part of the Community Learning Disability Service and works with children and adults with learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge across BCUHB and the six local authority areas of North Wales. The SBSS uses the model of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to conduct behavioural assessments, identify the underlying functions of challenging behaviours, and develop effective intervention plans. It works closely with the Community Learning Disability Teams to identify individuals who may be vulnerable to destabilisation and who could be placed out of area as a consequence of challenging behaviours. Main duties of the job Assist the Band 7 Senior Specialist Behavioural Nurse (SSBN), Band 6 Specialist Behavioural Nurse (SBN), or Band 5 Behavioural Nurse (BN) in gathering information for assessment. Support staff and carers in implementing active support and other agreed behavioural interventions under the direction of the SBSS Nurses. Provide crisis support to service users and others who support them when behaviours challenge. Contribute to service‑wide early intervention and prevention by implementing the SBSS Monitoring and Review Pathway for cases discharged from the active case list. Provide a crucial support role within the SBSS. Person specification Qualifications City and Guilds / Welsh Joint Education Committee Health and Social Care Level 3 or BTEC Positive Behaviour Support Level 3 or equivalent knowledge, training and experience. Assistant Practitioner Level 4 or equivalent knowledge, training and experience, for example Certificate in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA/PBS). Experience Experience of providing daily or sessional support to people with a learning disability and behaviour that challenges. Skills And Attributes Able to organise own work, including time‑keeping, and work methodically; evidence of good organisational skills. Basic IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Excellent interpersonal skills. Effective problem‑solving and communication skills with service users, carers and staff, and multidisciplinary team members, both verbally and in writing. Team player who contributes to wider MDT working. Ability to handle complex and difficult situations, using tact and diplomacy. Flexible to work varying hours across different locations. Understanding of equality, diversity and safeguarding issues and commitment to promote independence and self‑advocacy. Calm under crisis and able to support others to stay calm. Positive role model who shares skills and knowledge. Enthusiastic, highly motivated and capable of inspiring confidence. Respectful, trustworthy and able to take initiative. Willing to undertake further education, training and development relevant to the post. Other Must have a full driving licence.
