OverviewTo demonstrate skills, to instruct and support learners and staff in practical teaching workshops.ResponsibilitiesTo provide direct support to learners and staff engaged in workshop activitiesTo provide staff training on specific equipment and software programmes and to act as a technical advisor to staffPrepare classroom/workshop activities, ensuring all materials and equipment are prepared in readiness for practical IT sessions and the retrieval of such IT equipment and toolsProvide a storekeeping service and be responsible for the security of all IT equipment and toolsMaintain and repair specialist equipment to keep it in good working order and safe condition, assist with practical IT classes in demonstrations and support student project work, contribute to programme team developmentBe flexible in supporting the department’s requirements and cross college tasksBe responsible for furniture, equipment and consumable goods used in relation to workPreparation of open evenings setting up promotional stands and exhibition materialRepairing and maintaining classroom computers used for practical sessionsRegular planned maintenance and repairs of all classroom computersAdministration of budget within the computer maintenance and IT ShopTo organise and supervise the daily operations in the IT shop and provide direct support to learners and staff engaged in IT Shop activitiesSupport the development and use of 3D printing within the curriculum, including preparing and maintaining 3D printers, advising staff on suitable software and materials, and assisting learners with practical 3D design and printing tasksDisposal of old and faulty hardware computer componentsCleaning of all equipmentEnsure continuous development and improvement of professional knowledgeAny other duties, of a similar level of responsibility, as may be required. Skills, Knowledge and ExpertiseQualificationsEssential Criteria At Least L3 computer qualifications or related discipline. Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair Hardware, Software and Networking faults. Desirable KnowledgeExperience with 3D printing processes including slicing software, filament management and basic machine maintenance.Ability to support learners with 3D design workflows using software such as Tinkercad, Fusion 360 or similar.Understanding of how 3D printing can enhance curriculum delivery through prototyping, modelling and practical project work. IT SkillsEssential Criteria Good knowledge of Computer components and hardware troubleshooting; Good knowledge of IT networking and server technologies (including web server); Good level of Microsoft applications particularly Excel.
