3 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants Job Summary The Senior Radiographer will support the clinical team, and where required the administrative team, in ensuring the clinical services of the department are optimised and patients are treated within a timely manner. Once sufficient specialist knowledge and skills are acquired, the post‑holder will be expected to act as clinical lead for the department when required. In addition to supporting the NHS pathway, the post‑holder will help facilitate the treatment of private and self‑paying patients, collating referral data, imaging, and patient information prior to treatment. The post‑holder will assist in the day‑to‑day organisation and running of the centre and support the clinical staff in their delivery of stereotactic based treatments. The senior radiographer will assist in the day‑to‑day organisation, quality assurance, and operation of the treatment unit, deputising for the Lead Radiographer during absence and supervising radiographer grade staff and support staff. It is expected that the post‑holder be flexible with their working time to enable the clinical service to operate without disruption. Key Service Gamma Knife radiosurgery – treating brain tumours and other intracranial indications in partnership with the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery NHS Foundation Trust. Treatments include: Meningiomas Pituitary adenomas Acoustic neuromas / vestibular schwannomas Trigeminal neuralgia Brain metastases Other functional lesions Job Specification Deliver accurate and efficient radiation treatment and provide a high standard of patient care. Maintain accurate patient records by inputting accurate information to reflect the service provided and meet professional standards. Use specialist knowledge of site‑specific imaging protocols to analyse verification images and recommend any adjustments to ensure treatments are within tolerance. Perform daily/weekly/monthly QA procedures to ensure equipment runs within acceptable tolerance parameters. Identify, record and report faults, escalating to equipment provider, rescheduling treatments in the event of a breakdown and managing the consequences of faults effectively. Assess patient condition and prioritise work depending on severity and impact on management. Participate in the auditing of policies and procedures and propose changes within own scope of practice. Assist with day‑to‑day organisation of the treatment unit, including maintenance of appointment systems and working methods to ensure efficient service and workload targets are met. Participate in shift sessions when necessary, e.g. during periods of increased patient activity. Supervise support staff, junior radiographers, bank staff and health‑care assistants; deputise for Senior Radiographers when required. Participate in training/induction of new staff and act as a preceptor for new graduates/junior members of staff. Pursue personal and professional self‑development opportunities as determined by performance review and self‑direction. Contribute to research and development activities and participate in clinical governance and audit programmes. Provide administrative support to the department’s clinical work: scheduling, patient swabbing, hotel bookings, recognising a balanced treatment day, follow‑up appointments, rescheduling, and liaison with patients and consultants. Collate treatment information relating to activity and contact appropriate parties in a timely manner. Contribute to the risk and incident register and actively manage relevant elements of treatment delivery/clinical operation. Maintain mandatory training record, professional registration and DBS records. Undertake Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) course. Control and audit clinical stockkeeping. Qualifications In the essential category: Proven professional qualifications (Radiotherapy degree). HSPC Registration Certificate. In the desirable category: Gamma Knife experience. 2 to 3 years general radiotherapy experience. Knowledge & Skills Highly organised, detail orientated, dedicated, self‑directed, able to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge and experience of using MS Office (desirable). Experience HSPC Registration Certificate (essential). 2 to 3 years general radiotherapy experience (desirable).
