Environmental Crime Triage Investigator - 32440 Join the Environment Agency as an Environmental Crime Triage Investigator. As part of the Enforcement Team, you will play a key role in protecting our environment and communities by investigating illegal waste activities across the Solent and South Downs Area. Responsibilities Conduct desk‑based assessments of reported illegal waste sites to build intelligence and recommend appropriate actions. Visit sites when further investigation is required and liaise with landowners and partners to restore compliance. Manage data and intelligence in accordance with the National Intelligence Model and the National Incident Reporting System. Build effective relationships with partners, providing clear feedback and guidance to ensure efficient use of resources. Support Environmental Crime Officers with statement taking, evidence seizure, and photographic imagery, and develop investigative skills further. Assist with team administrative activities such as evidence logging and record keeping. Undertake training as a Drone Pilot (opportunity). Experience & Skills Required Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and external partners. Proven ability to complete tasks accurately with minimal supervision, both independently and within a team. Adaptable communication style and confidence in managing conflict or challenging situations. Confidence working in the field and engaging with the public while managing personal health, safety and wellbeing during lone work. Knowledge or interest in investigative legislation (PACE, CPIA, RIPA, Data Protection Act, Proceeds of Crime Act, Environmental Permitting Regulations, Environmental Protection Act). Experience managing accurate, secure information under the Government Classification Scheme. Candidate Preparation & Important Notes • Frequent, sometimes unscheduled travel across Sussex and Hampshire, with occasional travel to the Isle of Wight. • A full UK driving licence is essential; a hire car will be provided for operational travel and may qualify for a Lease Car after six months. • The post holder must obtain Non‑Police Personnel Vetting level 2a and a Security Check vetting (usually requiring 5 years UK residency). • The role offers flexible working options, including home and field work, and a supportive incident‑management training plan. • Interviews are expected to be held in person at Worthing or Chichester in February 2026.
