One of the best-known outdoor centres in the country, Calshot Activities Centre is located near Southampton, on the Solent, with stunning views across to the Isle of Wight. The centre is well positioned to offer watersports, as well as having an indoor hangar which hosts an impressive climbing wall, velodrome, dry ski slope and more. Calshot provides a diverse range of environmental education opportunities with a dedicated field studies centre for all curriculum stages. Supporting with planning and preparing for activities, demonstrating and instructing, with ability to motivate groups and individuals with centre related activity, both outdoor and indoor. Carrying out safety checks and explaining safety procedures and requirements to both groups and individuals. Assessing and managing risk, promoting inclusion with whole group participation whilst working to inspire environmental stewardship. Supporting team and working with centre staff on a day-to-day basis in order to facilitate the centre’s offer to a wide range of groups and individuals. The position comes with the option to be accommodated for the season at a cost of £350.00 per month. Staff accommodation is in the nearby village. Walking to work takes around 25 mins. This is a “live in” position and provides an opportunity to gain a L3 qualification aligned to the full season. For the right person, there is continuity of employment and a potential opportunity to progress to L5 / Higher Education as part of a Gov’t funded learning pathway. This opportunity is for 9 months. Entry requirements Ideally with existing Functional Skills / GCSE at L2 / 4 in Maths and English, with some existing related experience or ability to develop within outdoor activity education. Strong communication skills, ability to work as a team worker, patience, empathy, enthusiasm. Good organisational skills. Actively involved in outdoor pursuits/activities. Skills required Customer care skills Physical fitness Training to be provided Things to consider This is a physical job so you must be in good physical health.
