SEN Teaching Assistant
Are you a patient, resilient, and empathetic Teaching Assistant who’s passionate about helping children with additional needs reach their full potential? A friendly and inclusive primary school in North West London (Harrow) is looking for a skilled SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 2 pupil with ASD, ADHD, and oppositional defiance.
This is a rewarding, full-time role for someone who thrives on building meaningful connections, encouraging positive behaviour, and making a real difference to a child’s learning and emotional development.
About the Role:
You’ll work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and pastoral team to provide structured, consistent support tailored to the pupil’s individual needs. Your day-to-day will include:
• Building trust and rapport to help the pupil engage confidently in learning.
• Implementing behavioural, emotional, and sensory strategies that promote focus and self-regulation.
• Supporting transitions, social interactions, and emotional expression throughout the school day.
• Encouraging independence, resilience, and positive communication.
• Working collaboratively with staff and parents to ensure consistency and progress.
The Ideal Candidate:
• Has experience supporting children with ASD, ADHD, ODD, or emotional/behavioural needs.
• Confident in applying de-escalation and positive behaviour management strategies.
• Ideally holds Team Teach or similar training (or open to completing it).
• Calm, nurturing, and adaptable — able to respond thoughtfully to challenges.
• A strong communicator and reliable team player with excellent initiative.
What the School Offers:
• A warm, inclusive, and supportive team dedicated to child wellbeing.
• Access to ongoing CPD and training, including behaviour and SEN-focused courses.
• A positive environment where every staff member is valued and supported.
• The opportunity to make a genuine, long-term difference in a child’s school journey.
If you’re passionate about helping children with additional needs succeed both academically and emotionally, this is the perfect opportunity to take the next step in your SEN career.
