Postdoctoral Research Assistant – Physiology of Calcification in Phytoplankton Department of Earth Sciences, University of Oxford, Oxford, United Kingdom. Salary: £40,514 – £43,984 per annum. Position: 18-month fixed‑term, starting 1 April 2026, with possibility of extension contingent on funding. Job Overview The Oceanbug group within the Department of Earth Sciences seeks a skilled researcher to investigate the physiological and biochemical processes underpinning calcification and photosynthesis in calcifying plankton. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to research on cellular and community‑level processes that shape marine carbon cycles. Responsibilities Lead and report an original research programme on calcification and photosynthesis in phytoplankton. Conduct culture work and physiological monitoring techniques. Apply optical and electron microscopic approaches. Perform enzyme kinetic assays and work with O2 electrodes. Collate and publish results; present at international conferences. Interact with interdisciplinary collaborators across Biology, Biochemistry and related departments. Represent the research group at meetings and outreach events. Qualifications and Experience PhD/DPhil in a relevant field, or expected to complete by the start date. Documented research track record with timely publications and conference presentations. Experience in culture, physiological monitoring, optical and electron microscopy. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Willingness and ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment. Experience with enzyme kinetic assays and O2 electrode measurements is desirable.
