This is initially a 12-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in Glasgow.The client is seeking a talented Java Developer with at least 5 years’ experience, preferably with exposure to Cloud Architectures & Public Cloud offerings, to join their team building a resilient, scalable, and secure cloud-based settlement platform. You will participate in requirements refinement, contribute to architecture, design and implementation, write code and automated tests, and create CI/CD pipelines following best software development and DevOps standards. In the client’s agile environment, you will interact directly with users, product owners, business analysts, and other technologists across the firm. Ideally the role holder will have a track record of building large-scale distributed applications, preferably on Azure/Cloud.ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with stakeholders to refine technical requirements and contribute to architectural decisionsDesign and implement distributed, event-based microservices using Java 8+, Spring Boot, and modern messaging protocolsDevelop scalable, secure APIs and services that handle high-throughput financial transactionsBuild and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code templates, and observability toolsEnsure services are production-ready with built-in telemetry, logging, performance tuning, and fault toleranceWrite unit, integration, and acceptance tests as part of a strong test automation cultureMentor junior developers and contribute to team knowledge sharing, code reviews, and process improvementPartner with DevOps, QA, and infrastructure teams to deliver high-quality software in a seamless deployment pipelineWork in an agile environment with regular sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and continuous deliveryRequirementsMinimum of 5 years’ experience developing enterprise-grade applications using Java 8 or aboveExpertise in Spring Boot and related Spring ecosystem frameworksStrong understanding of microservice architectures, design patterns, event-driven systems, and distributed computingExperience with messaging technologies (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar)Proficiency in building RESTful APIs and implementing secure, resilient, and observable backend servicesSound knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL database systems (e.g., SQL Server, MongoDB)Working familiarity with DevOps tools and practices—Git, Jenkins, Docker, CI/CD, etc.Exposure to cloud-native development principles, preferably with AzureStrong problem-solving skills and a proactive, delivery-focused mindsetExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalCareer coaching, mentoring and access to upskilling throughout your entire FDM careerAssignments with global companies and opportunities to work abroadOpportunity to re-skill and up-skill into new areas, develop non-linear career paths and build a skillset within your fieldAnnual leave, work-place pension and BAYE share schemeAbout FDMWe are a business and technology consultancy and one of the UK's leading employers, recruiting the brightest talent to become the innovators of tomorrow.
