Overview The Development Team is a high‑performing discipline within the Planning and Development business unit, focused on project delivery throughout the entire life cycle – from initial land acquisition and planning support to detailed design and implementation. Responsibilities Contribute to concept studies, strategies and drawing packages leading to planning applications, technical approval submissions and construction issues. Work on a variety of Development projects across all sectors and clients. Manage several projects simultaneously, ensuring tasks are delivered on budget, on programme and to technical standards. Engage with clients, stakeholders and design teams (both internal and external) to support project execution. Support the Newcastle team in developing technical capabilities and advancing your career progression. Ensure compliance with budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements. Qualifications Knowledge of highway design, drainage strategy, flood risk assessment, utility planning and the overall Development industry. Understanding of hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnics and building structures; familiarity with construction design stages and procedures. Ability to produce infrastructure masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations and construction drawings under supervision. Familiarity with design codes such as Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets and local authority guidance. Strong written and verbal communication skills and awareness of current technical guidance on climate change and sustainability. Proficiency with software including Info Drainage, Micro Drainage, AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or PDS. Experience liaising with clients, co‑professionals and design teams; competence in negotiating approvals with highway, water, statutory and local authorities. Knowledge of legal processes, planning, design, contract procedures for sewers, SuDS, highways and utilities in new developments. Understanding of financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding and delivering projects of varying size. Postgraduate education or equivalent experience and progress towards Chartership.
