Job summary This vacancy is open to Band 5 Registered Nurses with a minimum of 12 months post qualification experience and successful completion of preceptorship. It is a developmental post with progression to Band 6 upon meeting the criteria within the Band 6 job description and competency framework specific to Health & Justice Services. HMP Millsike are looking for Mental Health Nurses / Clinical Leads to provide mental health care to patients. The role will be responsible for assessment and caseload management of those referred into mental health services within HMP Millsike, working as part of a stepped care model. You will support your team to carry out comprehensive assessments, confidently communicate treatment options, initiate supportive care plans and provide evidence‑based interventions alongside the wider multidisciplinary team. Main duties of the job Candidates will work across urgent and planned services to develop knowledge, skills and experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required as well as an ability to work under pressure and with initiative. We are looking for clinicians who will thrive working in a busy environment amongst a well‑resourced team of multidisciplinary professionals, as well as alongside partner providers from a variety of internal and external services. Person Specification Qualification – Essential Current professional registration with an approved professional body. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development. For registered nurses: MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in Adult Education or willingness to work towards. Qualification must be achieved within agreed timescale. Trained Clinical Supervisor (within agreed timescale). Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent). Desirable Post‑graduate qualification in a relevant area. Experience – Essential Working with people with mental ill health. Experience – Desirable Working in a person‑centred therapeutic organisation. Working in a community setting. Working in forensic mental health services. Working in a prison setting. Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers. Working in a multi‑disciplinary team. Working in partnership with other agencies. Skills – Essential Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers/families and all members of the multidisciplinary team. Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Undertake lead professional and care co‑ordinator responsibilities (within agreed timescale). Manage own time and prioritise effectively. Motivate and work positively and assertively with other members of the team. Provide effective teaching, training and clinical supervision (within agreed timescale). Use approved breakaway techniques (within agreed timescale).
