Drilling Manager – Normanton, UK Accountable to the Director Ground Investigation, this role provides drilling services and operational support to the business, helping in the delivery of our 5‑year Business Strategy. As the Drilling Manager you will: Provide sound drilling knowledge and expertise across the business, supporting effective planning of drilling staff, activities and resources throughout the country and further afield. Ensure safe, high‑quality delivery of drilling services to clients, including risk assessing drilling activities, implementing controls, upskilling and training staff to achieve best‑practice methods and recover quality soil and rock samples. Manage and lead the drilling personnel (≈40 staff) and fitters (3 staff). Contribute to pricing and compilation of bids and tenders involving drilling services. Work with the works planner to schedule and assign drilling personnel and equipment, maximizing utilisation and ensuring correct resources are allocated. Conduct site walk‑overs on challenging jobs to verify appropriate equipment and staff. Provide project management support to the Ground Investigation department, monitoring budgets and ensuring cost‑effective delivery. Respond quickly to client needs, including emergency works and temporary work designs, while delivering a professional and technically sound drilling service. Offer on‑site supervision aligned to project plans and SHEQ plans, ensuring safe, timely and quality delivery. Support Drilling Supervisors by coordinating support for operational crews throughout the UK. Conduct safety and site checks/audits, competency assessments and upskilling where appropriate, including risk assessments, method statements and task briefings. Manage LOLER inspections, certification records and ensure compliance with PUWER regulations. Maintain drill rig and support equipment through preventive maintenance and repair schedules. Oversee drilling equipment stock levels. Approve employee timesheets and expense reports after initial checks. Build respectful, professional and high‑performing relationships across the business and with clients. Develop a sound understanding of Central Alliance’s and RSK’s processes, procedures, guidelines for drilling, logistics, project planning and execution. Support personal technical development, keeping up to date with British Standards and industry best practices. About You Experience supervising and managing ground investigation contracts. Experience in compliance with CDM regulations and producing health & safety documentation. Willingness to attend and pass internal and industry recognised external training courses (e.g. PTS, NRASWA, CCNSG, towing license, CAT, First Aid, manual handling).
