Your next role : Ophthalmic Nurse We’re looking for dedicated and patient-focused Registered Nurse / Practitioner to join our Bristol theatre team on a fixed term basis until the end of March 2026. We are happy to consider full or part time applications; candidates will be expected to work weekends on a rota basis. Nurses / Practitioners are an integral part of our theatre teams and will undertake a variety of duties. You’ll be setting the theatre up ready to accommodate patients. We can typically see 18-22 patients a day in our high-volume cataract surgery provision so you’ll thrive working in an efficient and fast paced environment. You’ll provide competent nurse provision including admission and discharge supporting the surgeon through the daily theatre list anticipating any potential problems and resolving these. At the end of the day you’ll help clean down the theatre and in all you do you’ll ensure the highest standards are met in terms of patient safety clinical compliance and hygiene levels. You will also undertake medicine management and audit duties as well as maintaining accurate patient records. You’ll manage clinical waste and ensure the correct disposal procedures are implemented. The thought of eye surgery can be a daunting prospect for patients to deal with so our Nurses need to be empathetic and friendly and able to put patients at ease and help them feel comfortable during their time in surgery. What you'll do Support patients through their full surgical pathway from admissions to theatre and discharge. Assist in preparing theatre, conducting safety checks and supporting the scrub nurse and theatre team. Provide patient care during discharge including information on post-surgical care and medication dispensing (following training and competencies). Maintain accurate records and documentation with a focus on patient safety. Put patients at ease working in a calm and process-driven way to deliver excellent care. What were looking for Previous experience in a healthcare or surgical environment is an advantage. Proven clinical and or administrative skills with the enjoyment of the routine and rhythm of a process driven and regulated environment. A passion for healthcare and supporting patients. Committed to deliver consistently high standards of care to patients. Confident user of Office 365 and tech systems (training provided). Great communication skills both written and verbal. A team player mentality with a proactive solution-focused approach. Ability to manage competing priorities with calm and clarity. An understanding of CQC standards (advantageous).
