Job Description The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We are modernising our systems and IT infrastructure, moving to Microsoft Azure cloud computing and associated analytics tools such as Synapse Analytics, Fabric and PowerBI. In this role you will support the Water Quality Digital Services team as a Junior Analytics Engineer, developing and deploying data products and analytics tools to empower the Water Quality user community with insights from diverse data sources. Responsibilities Develop and deliver data products and analytics tools for the Water Quality user community. Build and maintain reliable ETL pipelines that integrate data from a variety of sources. Design and implement STAR schema data models to support efficient querying and analysis in relational data warehouses. Use Python and SQL to develop clean, reusable, production‑quality code and queries. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams across the country to deliver innovative data solutions. Experience / Skills Required Extensive experience managing and analysing large datasets from multiple sources. Experience organizing data in STAR schema models for relational data warehouses. Experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines. Strong Python expertise, including object‑oriented code. Solid knowledge of SQL Server, database management and data‑warehousing best practices. Proficiency with analytical tools and programming languages to transform raw data into actionable insights. Capacity to solve complex problems and devise efficient, innovative solutions. Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, promoting inclusion and collaboration. Competency Questions Competence 1 – Focuses on Efficiency, Innovation and Quality Describe a time when you implemented a new innovative approach to satisfy a specific data reporting requirement. Explain the approach and how you ensured the process was resilient, repeatable and quality‑assured. Competence 2 – Takes Decisions and Solves Problems Give an example of when you solved a complex data analysis problem involving diverse data sources. What data did you use and what decisions did you take? Competence 3 – Data and Information Management Describe a complex data management task you undertook, detailing the data, tools and techniques used.
